Position Overview

As the world transitions from the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to a broader, more ambitious set of UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we seek a Policy and Advocacy Associate who is energized by the challenge to seize the unique opportunities on the horizon.
This fellow would specifically work within the policy and advocacy team and focus on the new Deliver for Good campaign. The Deliver for Good campaign is a new global push that applies a gender lens to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and promotes 12 critical investments–political and financial–in girls and women that will bring high returns for women and for societies in decades to come.
The fellow in this role will work with the Senior Associate, Policy and Advocacy on the Deliver for Good Campaign specifically. This work will include research, project management, grantee support, writing, advocating, and promoting policy which will ensure that Deliver for Good mobilizes multi-sector partners and allies to change the narrative around girls and women; and fuels concrete actions and SDG implementation at the global and country level.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with implementing strategic plans for advocacy activities specific to the Deliver for Good Campaign including, but not limited to: partner relationships, thematic meetings, country engagement, and other advocacy events around key calendar dates (e.g., UNGA week)
  • Provide support in producing a diverse range of advocacy and communications materials specific to Deliver for Good, including messaging documents, progress reports, presentations, research, meeting notes, and web and social media content
  • Coordinate Campaign partnerships with UN entities, NGOs, private sector partners, nonprofits, foundations, and civil society
  • Continually update and monitor policy opportunities and developments via media scans and discussions with grantees
  • Draft and build upon in-depth landscape analyses to inform in-country advocacy efforts
  • Research, identify, and draft funding proposals; and review grant applications in line with Deliver for Good and once awarded, work with grantees on grant reporting
  • Research and keep appraised of new evidence related to the 12 investment areas of the Deliver for Good Campaign
  • Liaise with the communications team on the digital storytelling platform
  • Organize and attend meetings, briefings, conferences, and other events relevant to the campaign; coordinate logistics for events as needed
  • Work alongside the team to ensure the timely completion of deliverables related to the Campaign’s workplan

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree*
    • Preferred: Master’s degree
  • Minimum two to three years of work experience, working with diverse cultures on global health or international development campaigns, policy, programs, or initiatives*
  • Experience in and passion for international development issues related to girls and women. A background in economic empowerment, girls’ education, or climate change is an added plus* 
  • Solid project management skills along with knowledge and experience working on advocacy and communications campaigns using research, public events, coalition building, and media to reach varying audiences*
  • Experience with in-country workshops and drafting grant applications*
  • Superb writing and editing skills, and professional communication and presentation skills in English*
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel, and adept in creating professional PowerPoint presentations*
  • Ability to translate technical reports and research into materials for non-technical audiences* 
  • Proficiency in speaking and writing French an added plus
  • Solid research experience evaluating quantitative and qualitative research with the ability to discern high quality data sources
  • Strong organization skills and a detailed-oriented mindset with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and work independently while meeting tight deadlines

Fellowship Logistics

During the fellowship year, all fellows are provided with:
  • A pre-tax living stipend of $1100/month
  • Housing and utilities
  • Health insurance
  • A professional development grant of $600
  • An award of $1500 upon successful completion of the fellowship year
  • Travel costs covered to and from placement site, training and retreats
Living and Working in the US: Fellows are provided with basic housing and a utilities stipend during the fellowship year. GHC coordinates housing for fellows placed in the United States in shared apartments or houses that meet GHC's safety standards. Housing arrangements are assigned prior to departure from Training Institute. Fellows at Women Deliver will be housed in New York City, an urban city in the northeastern United States.
