Director of Campaigns and Advocacy

Preferred location: Washington DC (other OI Office locations may be considered)

Salary: Circa USD 125,000

Contract: 5 year Fixed-Term


Oxfam International is seeking an exceptional person to lead its global Campaigns and Advocacy. With the largest campaigning capacity among international development and relief NGOs, Oxfam offers an exciting opportunity to lead and shape campaigns which affect the lives of millions of people.

In this role you will provide strategic leadership on issues such as the food crisis, climate change, trade, finance for development and aid effectiveness, the Millennium Development Goals, and on humanitarian and conflict issues. This means identifying, developing and implementing campaigns within a rights-based approach, both in developed countries and in many of the 98 developing countries where Oxfam has programs.

You will have an excellent strategic sense, with a proven ability to identify emerging issues and opportunities. Your senior level experience of leading and coordinating global campaigns must be combined with sound knowledge of international politics and relevant policy development.
You will represent Oxfam at the highest levels to decision makers, media and other NGOs, building and developing important external relationships with institutions, strategic allies, and other stakeholders.

As a member of the senior management team, you will manage 30 Oxfam International staff in Advocacy Offices in Brussels, Geneva, Washington, New York, Brasilia and Addis Ababa, engaging with key multilateral institutions as well as national governments and the private sector; through lobbying, media, digital campaigning and popular mobilisation.

Working across the Oxfam confederation you will be required to facilitate a high level of collaboration between the 14 Oxfam affiliates, while helping build their campaigning capacity. You will be a talented mediator and network coordinator with excellent skills in the management of both people and processes.

The role will involve 14–16 weeks international travel per annum. Fluency in English is required and competence in French and/or Spanish is desirable. The post holder must have the legal right to be employed in the US.
