Position: Field Assistant for Sanitation/Hygiene/Health Programme

Association for Aid and Relief, Japan (AAR JAPAN) is a non-political and non-profit NGO conducting humanitarian assistance in 14 different countries around the world. AAR JAPAN Southern Sudan Operation is implementing its Public Health Project in Eastern Equatoria State, with its base in Kapoeta. The project is intended to contribute to the safe and sustainable reintegration of returnees, and to the community development through strengthening the capacity of public health infrastructures such as providing safe water and strengthening the capacity for managing these infrastructures within communities in Kapoeta South, Kapoeta North, Lafon and Budi Counties.



Under the direct supervision of Project Officer for Health at AAR JAPAN Kapoeta Office, the Field Assistant for Sanitation/Hygiene/Health Programme is expected to carry out the following duties;

a. In cooperation with other partners and with Programme Coordinator/Country Director, plan, prepare and implement TOT on PHAST/CHAST methodology for school teachers and community leaders.

b. With the participants of the PHAST/CHAST TOT, plan, prepare and implement hygiene and sanitation sensitization sessions to the community members and school children, employing the CHAST/PHAST methodologies and ensuring that all activities are implemented in a consultative, participatory and gender sensitive manner.

c. Prepare field activity completion report with specific details of the activities, constraints and recommendations.

d. Assist Water-related activities as necessary and as appropriate. e. Work with other project assistants for monitoring activities.
f. Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.



a. Completion of secondary school education

b. More than two years of experience in community health, sanitation and hygiene promotion or health

promotion programme with NGOs or other relevant organizations

c. Fluency in the local languages (Toposa and Arabic) and good knowledge of written & spoken English are

required

d. Experience in the field of PHAST/CHAST a significant advantage

e. Good organizational, interpersonal, communication and training skills and ability to carry out work in an

efficient and timely manner

f. Ability to adapt to the changing requirements /environment

g. Ability to work independently and as a team member

h. Computer knowledge (MS Word, Excel) is an asset

i. Sudanese national
