Programme Coordinator ISS Peace Academy Addis Ababa (Closing Date: 25 February 2011)

The Institute for Security Studies (ISS) is an independent, non-profit and applied policy research organisation with a focus on human security in Africa. Its mission is to conceptualize, inform and enhance the security debate on the continent through educational and research programmes. The ISS, headquartered in Pretoria, has offices in Addis Ababa, Nairobi, Dakar and Cape Town. The Institute seeks to make three appointments in Addis Ababa to bring the ISS Peace Academy into being as a senior African training centre in mid 2011.

The ISS Peace Academy will provide programmes in African peace and security studies for mid-career diplomats, military officers, and civil servants from African foreign, defence, and related ministries, as well as for members from international and non-governmental organizations engaged with African issues. The ISS Peace Academy is recruiting for:

Programme Coordinator.

The Programme Coordinator will, under the direction of the Head of Academic Affairs, ensure effective planning, preparation and the smooth running of individual courses as assigned, contribute to course/programme development and manage communication with trainers and participants;

Requirements:


Basic degree required, MA preferred.
Experience in a research or policy environment.
Proven senior executive support experience.
Expertise in curriculum and course management.
Excellent financial, personnel management, communication, writing, presentation and networking skills.
English and French are both required: minimum is complete fluency in one and high working competence in the other.

The ISS Peace Academy will be co-located and share support systems with the ISS offices in Addis Ababa.

Salary: Commensurate with experience and ISS internal salary structure.

Envisioned start date is 1st May 2011 or shortly thereafter on a performance-based, renewable three-year contract.
