Water and Sanitation Manager

Salary: £27,297 - £30,332 p.a.

CAFOD is involved in numerous Humanitarian projects in emergency recovery situations around the world. Naturally, we have an ongoing need to have a pool of strong professionals who can take up the roles with short notice. In order to secure a qualified group of individuals, CAFOD accepts generic applications for specific technical roles – such as Water and Sanitation Managers.

This job description is generic, so the nature of the work might vary depending on location.

Watsan Managers have overall responsibility for the planning, management, operation, coordination and regular monitoring of the project to ensure smooth implementation of the watsan and hygiene promotion project activities. These include development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation as well as strengthening the technical capacities of the project team members. Moreover, Watsan Managers ensure effective procurement and distribution procedures, control and watsan budget management, logistics and warehousing systems that meet CAFOD’s supply chain procedures and donor requirements. Watsan Managers supervise the drilling contractor and assist the CAFOD Humanitarian Project Manager as well as partner agencies to deliver a successful and effective project.

You should be a strong manager with good technical skills together with strong financial management and writing skills. Programme development skills are essential to ensure the programme responds to changing needs. Excellent skills in programme monitoring and evaluation will be necessary to ensure quality. Strong PRA skills to ensure community management of water and sanitation facilities are essential. The post holder will be a strong people manager, able to motivate, coordinate and lead a team of local partner, local staff and international staff to achieve programme objectives. Proven capacity building skills are essential. Finally, strong and wide ranging personal qualities such as self motivation, team building and flexibility will be a critical factor for success.
