This position is maternity cover for one of our Design Advisers. The purpose of the job is to work with the UK design sector and with British Council colleagues overseas to develop programmes, audiences, and partnerships that contribute to the British Council’s cultural relations programme. This role has specific responsibility for working with countries within the British Council regions of the European Union, India, Sri Lanka and East Asia.

The Architecture, Design, Fashion department works in four specific areas:
- Bringing inspirational new UK work to new global audiences;
- Showcasing the UK at events of international importance;
- Developing skills and leadership in the creative sector;
- Harnessing the power of the arts in achieving international development goals.

You will have: knowledge and experience of working within the UK design sector, with specialist knowledge of product and furniture design and craft, and a wide general knowledge of all areas of design and architecture. Equally essential are contacts with key practitioners and design organisations. Good communication and writing skills, and the ability to communicate our work to the UK sector, and to British Council colleagues overseas are a must for the role. Proven ability to manage projects and budgets is essential.
