Director of Communications Industry Association

An important European, Brussels-based industry association seeks a Director of Communications to head its communications team.

Principle responsibilities and tasks are to:

  • Develop and execute the communications strategy of the association with the overall objective of providing accurate and clear information on the sector and improve the understanding and image of the industry;
  • Advise the Secretary General on all strategic communications issues involving the sector in the framework of the EU institutions;
  • Maintain active relations with the media in Brussels and across the European Union;
  • Sustain an active dialogue with relevant stakeholder groups and parties that are active in or have an influence on the EU institutional setting;
  • Write speeches and prepare interviews for the association’s President and Secretary General;
  • Act as spokesperson alongside the association’s President and the Secretary General;
  • Deploy and develop all channels of communications as relevant to the various target groups, including print and digital publications, internet, multi-media and social media;
  • Organise relevant events and policy conferences.

The trade association represents a large, innovative manufacturing industry that is key to the European economy. Its membership consists of over a dozen major European multinationals that are under constant public scrutiny. Strategic issues for communications include industrial policy, trade relations, environmental issues and sustainable growth.

To apply for the position, candidates need to have:

  • A minimum of 5 years experience in a senior communications position in the Brussels/EU environment;
  • A good understanding of public affairs;
  • A background in journalism or proven experience in press relations;
  • English at native-speaker level; and a good knowledge of German and French
  • Strong writing and editing skills.

The ideal candidate is an excellent communicator, a self-starter as well as a team player, and both flexible and service minded.
