Location: The position will be based in Phnom Penh, with regular travel to monitor projects in the field. As the project develops, the position may be required to relocate to Kampong Saom

Founded in 1903, Fauna & Flora International (FFI) is the world’s longest-established international conservation organisation. Our vision is to create a sustainable future for the planet where biodiversity is conserved by the people living closest to it. We aim to do this through the conservation of threatened species and ecosystems worldwide, choosing solutions that are sustainable, based on sound science and take account of human needs. We operate primarily in developing countries where there is little capacity to conserve endangered and threatened habitats and species. We have become a trusted entity in the world of conservation. Today FFI is active in over 40 countries.

Working closely with local partners, the Asia Pacific Programme currently includes a broad range of species and landscape targeted conservation initiatives in Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Laos and Myanmar, and has country programme offices in Phnom Penh, Nanning, Jakarta, Manila and Hanoi and a regional office in Singapore. Around 70 projects are being implemented in the region by a team of approximately 200 staff, consultants, volunteers and partner organisations with an annual regional budget of approximately USD 9 million.

FFI has worked in Cambodia for over 10 years with large projects assisting the creation of effective protected areas in the South west Cardamom Mountains. Over the last three years FFI has extended the scope of its conservation work in Cambodia to include coastal areas.

FFI has been supporting the Fisheries Administration (FiA) of the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) through a programme of capacity building. FiA have specifically requested technical and financial support in their efforts to establish Cambodia’s first Marine Protected Area (MPA) and FFI has secured funding in order to achieve this.

Through this project FFI will ensure that FiA has the relevant training, information and tools required to design and manage Cambodia’s first MPA. FFI will provide training, guidance and mentoring on marine governance, marine conservation theory, participation, negotiation and conflict management. FFI will seek to reinforce this through sharing lessons and building links to the wider regional MPA community to develop a supportive network, which will extend beyond the project duration. FFI will also seek to recommend options for diversifying livelihood strategies, but within the scope and duration of this project will not seek to implement them.

FFI is seeking a Project Manager (PM) to oversee the effective delivery of this exciting new project. This position presents a unique opportunity to work with and develop the capacity of the government and local coastal communities of Cambodia whilst improving the conservation of the country’s marine biodiversity. You will be responsible for overall leadership and project coordination in addition to mentoring partner organisations to ensure both project efficacy and legacy beyond the current funding. You will have an advanced degree in marine science, or equivalent experience, and a minimum three years’ experience working on conservation projects in the field. A dynamic team player, excellent communicator and leader, you will have a strong background in conservation education, ecological research and project management (preferably in a marine conservation context.
