Research Fellow in Health Economics

We are seeking an enthusiastic researcher to join the HIV modelling and economics group to work on a combination of projects on the economics of HIV and STI interventions/ services. The post holder will be based in London, and will be expected work as part of multi-disciplinary team. The position will include reviewing literature, guiding the collection of data on costs, the analysis and write-up of economic analyses and support to research project management and proposal writing.

The Research Fellow will initially work on the following projects.

  • Economic evaluation of HPV screening among HIV+ women in Burkina Faso and South Africa. This study is embedded within a trial evaluating effectiveness of alternative HPV screening strategies for the prevention of cervical cancer among HIV positive women.
  • Introduction of ARV-based prevention. In this study, cost-effectiveness projections will be compared for different introduction strategies across different ARV-based prevention products and delivery methods; this will be done in collaboration with epidemiological modellers.

We are looking for an applicant with a background and strong interest in health economics research in low and middle-income countries, with an ability to communicate results to local and international stakeholders and through academic publications. The successful candidate will have had previous exposure to cost analysis and/or economic evaluations either as part of their studies or previous employment. They will have strong quantitative skills, preferably in the areas of econometrics or decision modelling for economic evaluation and a willingness to travel. Experience of working in HIV/AIDS or sexual and reproductive health, primary data collection and a PhD are desirable, as are strong communication skills. The post will include some supported teaching on LSHTM courses and the possibility of the further development of research in this field.

The post is full time for two years, though two part time applicants could be considered. Salary is on the Academic Pathway Grade 6, (£35,661-£40,499 per annum inclusive). Appointment will be subject to LSHTM terms and conditions, including membership of the Universities Superannuation Scheme, an annual leave allowance of 30 days pro rata plus 6 fixed 'Director's Days' and season ticket loan.
