Web Specialist

The International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking a Web Specialist with high level of commitment to assist the Communications and Public Awareness Department (CPAD) in the management of CIP’s online communications platforms.

The Center: CIP is a not-for-profit international agricultural research-for-development organization with a focus on potato, sweet potato, and Andean roots and tubers. Its vision is of roots and tubers improving the lives of the poor. CIP is dedicated to achieving food security, improved well-being, and gender equity for poor people in root and tuber farming and food systems of the developing world. CIP works with partners to contribute high quality science, technology, and capacity strengthening for sustainable science-based solutions. CIP is headquartered in Lima, Peru, with staff and activities in over 30 locations across Asia, Africa, and Latin America. CIP is a member of the Consultative Group for International Agricultural Research, a network of 15 research centers mostly located in the developing world and supported by more than 50 donor members.

The Position: This position will be based in Lima, Perú and will report directly to the Webmaster. The Web Specialist position will assist in the management of CIP’s online communications platforms, in close collaboration with the organization’s Webmaster.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for local and online support to content contributors among several web platforms. Follows evolving industry best practices in web and internet technology, content management, and usability; proposes improvements to web sites accordingly;
  • Ensure that site content and design complies with CIP standards and guidelines. Monitor the timeliness and relevance of website information;
  • Develop and enforce metadata, such as descriptions and keywords to aid in site indexing and improved searchability. Receive content in a variety of formats and publish the material on-line. Extends the reach of online resources through various media tools by making them available to staff;
  • Respond to users by interpreting and addressing their requests and troubleshooting technical web-related problems.
  • Analyze and interpret website impact on users and users' needs;
  • Maintain full operational status the CIP’s web servers and databases, as well as provide full web coordination and coverage in the absence of webmaster.
  • Coordinates the support and maintenance of websites with the Information Technology Unit (ITU)

Selection criteria:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communication technologies or equivalent, preferably with a specialization in web technologies.
  • Minimum three years of recent experience in designing / developing and maintaining user-friendly and modern websites following web development standards and making appropriate use of Web 2.0 technologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Spanish and English is required;
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work well individually and as part of a team, internally as well as externally. Proactive behavior and client focus
  • Demonstrated time management skills

Conditions: This position is local and the employment contract will be for a one-year term with six month probation period and the possibility of renewal. CIP prides itself on its collegial and supportive working environment, which allows space for personal and professional growth.
