Donor Services Officer

Médecins Sans Frontières / Doctors Without Borders (MSF) is an international humanitarian aid organisation that provides assistance in more than 60 countries to populations in distress, to victims of natural or manmade disasters and to victims of armed conflicts, without discrimination and irrespective of race, religion, creed or political affiliation. The MSF South Africa Fundraising Unit is based in Johannesburg and is responsible for raising funds for MSF’s social mission.

Job location: MSF Johannesburg office (Braamfontein)

Description: The Donor Services Officer will support the marketing and fundraising administrative activities of the MSF fundraising unit. This position is placed under the management of the Head of Fundraising (HoF), and is a proactive part of the fundraising team.

Start date:1 July 2012

Terms: Fixed term contract, 9am – 5pm; Mondays to Fridays

Duties: The tasks of the Donor Services Officer include, but are not limited to, the following:

•Communicate with donors in a timely and appropriate manner to : thank/welcome them, send them the adequate material, issue tax receipts, and encourage increased levels of involvement
•Assist with the creation of donor stewardship materials
•Work on the donor life cycle to implement a cultivation strategy
•Improve internal donor services processes
•Develop and maintain a creative wall of MSF marketing materials
•Develop materials and internal policies for events fundraising; and then promote, track and support third-party events
•Participate in donor acquisition campaigns, renewals, upgrading, cultivation and emergencies
•Coordinate the population, cleaning and correction of donor database records
•Conduct background research into prospective middle & high level donors


Job requirements:

Required Skills:
•Studies in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, etc.
•Experience in data registration and processing
•Experience in, and enthusiasm for donor / customer service and private fundraising
•Excellent time management and organizational skills
•Ability to generate reliable statistics, documentation and progress reports
•A strong interest in humanitarian issues and sharing of MSF values
•Computer literacy, especially Microsoft Word and Excel
•Fluency in English, spoken and written

Desirable skills:
•Previous experience with other humanitarian organizations
