New Engineering Foundation
Position: Economic Strategist, London SW15
Salary: £50,000 + PRP


An economic strategist is required by the New Engineering Foundation (NEF) to conduct economic analysis, develop strategies and scenarios, and write articulate, compelling reports and studies.

NEF is an independent educational charity and think-tank that supports the advancement of technical and scientific vocational education (www.thenef.org.uk).

Key responsibilities
• Research, compile, analyse, interpret, and prepare data on economic conditions in regions
• Review and analyse economic data in line with skills, employment, growth and demand indicators
• Analyse regional investment plans, economic sector clusters and structures and align with research from educational sector
• Develop skills forecasts based on future economic need
• Identify unique economic indicators in respect to trends in national, regional and local economies and education and skills forecasts
• Develop effective strategies to move organisations and regions to an improved position
• Develop and deliver reports, proposals and presentations as necessary to meet work requirements
• Provide input with respect to regional economic strategies and policies to inform strategic development
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders involved in strategy development
• Develop relationships with key stakeholders (colleges, business and industry, universities, councils etc.) in development of strategies and programmes
• Participate in the preparation of responses to Government consultations and inquiries

The role requires:
• A minimum of a degree is required
• Experience in economic analysis, interpretation and strategy development
• Knowledge of:
o principles and practices of economics and economic analysis;
o graphic and narrative techniques for the presentation of data;
o micro and macro-economic theory; and
o economic indicators relative to national, regional and local economic trends
• A strong understanding of education and skills in the context of regional development
• Proven skills in developing strategies incorporating analytical proof throughout
• A commercial awareness and natural drive to succeed
• Proven ability to write compelling and articulate reports and studies
• Excellent presentation, oral and written communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a dynamic team environment
• A strong sense of responsibility and willingness to take ownership of projects
• Ability to initiate and finish projects in a timely manner.
• Flexible and responsive with a “can do” attitude.
