Organizational Context:
The WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center is a resource center for the resolution of intellectual property disputes between private parties through methods other than court litigation. The Center's areas of activity are covered by four Sections: the IP Disputes Management Section, the Domain Name Dispute Resolution Section, the Information and External Relations Section and the Legal Development Section.
Under the supervision of the Deputy Director and Head of the IP Disputes Management Section, the incumbent assumes the following duties:
Main duties:
(a) to administer mediation, arbitration and expert determination cases filed with the Office;
(b) to promote the integration of WIPO alternative dispute resolution clauses in standard agreements, and to develop and to implement tailor-made dispute resolution schemes in relation to sectoral areas of intellectual property;
(c) to develop, gather and analyze research into the needs of users of mediation and arbitration of intellectual property disputes. To draft publications in the area of alternative dispute resolution;
(d) to participate in dispute resolution conferences, to represent the Center in workshops and user meetings, and to contribute to the development of programs for such events;
(e) to perform other related duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Advanced university degree in law, preferably with specialization in international commercial arbitration or intellectual property, ideally both.
Experience:
At least six years of professional experience in intellectual property law or alternative dispute resolution in a law firm, organization or institution administering dispute resolution procedures or involved in transactions relating to intellectual property.
Skills:
Knowledge and understanding of the policies and procedures that apply to alternative dispute resolution.
Flexibility and team spirit. Ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure. Ease and tact in personal contacts at all levels. Good negotiation skills.
Languages:
Excellent knowledge of English or French, with knowledge of the other an advantage; ability to work in other languages desirable.
Annual salary: (Net of tax)
56.091 USD
60.091 USD (with primary dependants)
Additional Information:
Salaries and allowances are paid in Swiss francs at the official rate of exchange of the United Nations.
* Initial period of two years, renewable, subject to satisfactory performance. No fixed-term appointment or any extension hereof shall carry with it any expectancy of, nor imply any right to, (further) extensions or conversion to a permanent appointment.
