Pricing Project Manager Fairtrade International

Fairtrade International (FLO) unites the producer-, market- and business-facing activities within the Fairtrade Labelling system. FLO develops the Fairtrade Standards; promotes the empowerment of Fairtrade-certified producers by supporting them in gaining and maintaining Fairtrade Certification and capitalizing on market opportunities; and facilitates global Fairtrade markets, to optimise benefits for producers.

The Standards and Pricing Unit at Fairtrade International (FLO) is responsible for setting and revising standards, including generic standards, product standards, Fairtrade Minimum Prices, and Fairtrade Premium levels. The Unit includes the Pricing Unit which is responsible for the development of Fairtrade Minimum Prices and Fairtrade Premium levels, and the Standards Unit which develops and revises generic standards as well as standards for new products and new certification areas. Both sub-units work to develop better methodological approaches to standard setting, provide technical analysis and reports as well as developing explanatory and training documents about Fairtrade standards.


OBJECTIVE/PURPOSE:

The post holder will contribute to the development and management of standards, and in particular of Fairtrade Minimum Prices and Premiums and related price setting methodologies.


Core Responsibilities:

• Manage projects to develop and revise Fairtrade International’s Fairtrade Minimum Prices and Fairtrade Premium levels.
• Support and develop methodological improvements to Fairtrade international’s price-setting processes
• Support and develop technical analysis and reports
• Respond to questions from within the system as well as from stakeholders
• Support training and communication on Fairtrade International’s prices and price-setting


PRINCIPAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Pricing Project Management
- Design and manage projects to develop and revise Fairtrade International’s Fairtrade Minimum Prices and Fairtrade Premium levels, according to agreed objectives, timelines, and allocated budget, in the framework of Fairtrade International (FLO) Standard Operating Procedures
- Develop consultancy tenders, coordinate the hiring of consultants, train and manage consultants to deliver high-quality inputs to standards / pricing projects.
- Manage stakeholder consultation processes and project communication activities and relationships with key stakeholders.
- Manage administrative tasks (i.e. filing, correspondences) related to the project.

Research and Analysis
- Conduct desktop research in support of price development and revision.
- Analyse and present consultation results on price levels and related issues.
- Develop and present high quality analytical papers to support decision-making on standards by Fairtrade International’s Standards Committee and Board.

Prices Development and Revision
- Revise Fairtrade International’s existing prices and set new ones, on the basis of evidence-based analysis and in line with provided guidance
- Communicate new and revised prices as well as new methodologies, including through the development of explanatory documents, training workshops, and Q&A to be used by the Communication Department
- Contribute to the execution of general office tasks related to the work as needed.

Methodological Development
- Develop methodological aspects of Fairtrade International’s price setting approach.
- Answer to price-related questions and requests from various stakeholders.


SKILLS REQUIRED:
• Knowledge / Job Specific Competencies:
- A minimum of 2 years experience in project management (essential)
- Experience within Fairtrade relevant area (desired)
- University education in development, economics, business, agriculture or other relevant field (essential)
- Advanced knowledge of small farmers’ and workers’ social and economic conditions in developing countries (essential)
- Qualification and experience in social, economic, or environmental standard-setting or auditing (desired)
- Professional experience of work in international development, particularly small business development (desired)

Professional Skill Requirements
- Project management skills, including: project design and planning, project budgeting, team management
- Analytical, research, writing, and presentation skills
- Excellent cross-cultural communication skills and capacity to make complex issues easily understandable
- Strong social skills.
- Languages: Fluency in English and ability to work effectively in Spanish, French or Portuguese essential.

PRIMARY RELATIONSHIPS:

Within FLO the position has primary working relationships with the Standards Unit, the Producer Services Relations Unit, the Strategy and Policy Unit, Global Product Management, the Communications Team and other relevant Business Units.

On a project-basis, the Project Manager will develop relationships with external stakeholders including Fairtrade producers and their representatives; Fairtrade traders; staff at Fairtrade Labelling Initiatives; staff at FLO-CERT; consultants; and representatives of other relevant partner organizations.


TERMS AND CONDITIONS:

• This is a full-time job and is based in the Fairtrade International (FLO) office in Bonn, Germany
• The working language is English
• Start date: as soon as possible
• Salary is based on the Collective Bargaining Agreement, Salary Group 5;
• 30 days annual leave and flexible working hours.
