Program Assistant - International Women’s Conference

This temporary DC based role starts as soon as filled and is slated to run through mid October 2012. This positin supports country staff, program manager and the regional director in theday-to-day activities and support in the planning, designing and implementing projectsrelated to the international women’s conference that will be held in Kosovo inOctober 2012.


Responsibilities

  • Under close supervision of a program manager, conference participant coordinator, or other individual in authority within the team provides administrative and logistical support in regards to the planning and implementing of the international women’s conference.
  • Under close supervision and direction, submits travel itineraries and requests for purchase on behalf of conference participants and documents those travel plans once reservations have been secured.
  • Under close supervision, monitors the conference budget from the DC office.
  • Under close supervision, assists with procurement and contracting processes to secure conference space, translation services, and other conference logistics.
  • Provides administrative support and takes part in strategic and conference planning discussions.


Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in International Relations, Political Science or a related field; graduate degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated event planning experience, preferably on large-scale or international conferences
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in an administrative role
  • Experience living/working/traveling overseas preferred
    • Good interpersonal skills to effectively interact with all levels of staff, U.S. and foreign government personnel and NGO community
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively present information and respond to questions
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Capacity to work both independently and as a member of a team
    • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs
    • Working knowledge of basic budget and accounting procedures
    • Interest in and knowledge of regional political environment and people
    • Ability to effectively articulate NDI mission statements and program/project initiatives
    • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines
