Incubator Fellow – Marketing and Professional Communications

The Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST) startup incubator is seeking a person with a passion for tech start-up strategy, marketing and business development for a one-year assignment supporting young companies in our incubator in Accra, Ghana. The incubator currently is home to 10 (and growing!) fully funded startup companies, comprised of graduates from our award-winning entrepreneurship training program.

On a daily basis, the Marketing and Communications Fellow will support the incubator companies in developing and executing marketing and communications strategies for their companies, focused both locally and internationally. You will work in a dynamic team with other incubator fellows from around the world, which is led by the Director of Business Development for the Incubator.

Your background should include:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, or related field
  • Significant work experience in communications or marketing
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully apply marketing and communication skills in a professional environment
  • Good at creating marketing plan and strategic go-to market strategy
  • Knowledge of time management and project management concepts
  • Experience in delivering professional standard presentations
  • Fluent english language skills; written and verbal
  • Ability to work in a team, and to deal with ambiguity
  • Understanding/experience of startup company strategy

Responsibilities:

  • Be part of the team, and actively participate in the development of the incubator companies
  • Assist companies to develop professional standard communication pieces
  • Develop, in collaboration with the companies, innovative marketing strategies tailored to each company
  • Work one-on-one with company owners to develop and refine their communication skills and strategy
  • Prepare companies for the global business world by becoming a mentor and positive role model

Because of the challenges fellows face as they seek to make a significant impact at the MEST Incubator, the recruitment process is selective. However, applicants do not compete against one another for a fixed number of positions. MEST is focused on finding the right fit, and the right team dynamics. We evaluate applicants against the characteristics listed above, and those who demonstrate strong evidence of those characteristics are successful.
