Doctoral Researcher NIAB TAG

NIAB requires an experienced post-doctoral researcher for an international, collaborative project supporting the genetic and biological characterisation of stem rust resistance in 4 wheat mapping populations, and the establishment of DNA marker technologies in South Africa and Kenya.

The post-doc will supervise visiting staff and students and assist institutes in Africa to establish and develop marker technologies, as well as undertaking microscopic studies of wheat-rust interactions and wheat-rust field trial management.

You must have a PhD in plant pathology or plant biology and relevant experience of fungal pathogen systems; statistical, genetic mapping and QTL analysis and DNA marker technologies. A proven ability to supervise students and manage visiting researchers is also required, together with a body of published scientific papers and experience of presenting at scientific conferences. Field trial management, plant microscopy and KASPar marker experience is desirable.

Starting salary is in the range of £31,000 to £37,000, depending on qualifications, skills and experience.
