CRPD wishes to recruit a PhD student to work on a project entitled "Making National Citizens: Analyzing the Impact of Ghana's National Youth Service Programme" under the direction of assistant professor Arnim Langer

Job description

  • To conduct research as part of the research project "Making National Citizens: Analyzing the Impact of Ghana's National Youth Service Programme" with the joint aim to contribute to the successful completion of this research project and to obtain a PhD degree in Social Sciences from the KU Leuven
  • The research project will last 4 years and will be conducted under the supervision of assistant professor Arnim Langer and assistant professor Bart Meuleman.

Profile

  • The applicant should have completed a Master's degree in sociology, economics, political science, developmental studies or any other closely related subject;
  • The applicant should have an excellent academic record: A high first class honours degree or its equivalent (a GPA score of at least 3.7 if the mark is out of 4, noting that most successful candidates achieve a score higher than 3.7) or an outstanding academic record at Master's level is necessary (noting that an outstanding Master's degree can compensate for a moderate first degree performance);
  • The applicant should have excellent analytical and writing skills (any peer-­‐reviewed publications will be an advantage)
  • The applicant should have considerable experience with quantitative research and/or should be able to statistically analyze survey data;
  • Experience in survey research and methodology will be an advantage, as is research experience in any African country.

Availability and statute

  • Commencement of employment on October 1, 2012 or by mutual agreement.
  • Renewable contracts of 1 year on the basis of positive evaluation. Total duration of employment is 4 years.
