We are pleased to announce the following vacancy in the Technology Security Department within the Technology Division. In keeping with our current business needs, we are looking for a person who meets the criteria indicated below:

TECHNOLOGY SECURITY OFFICER
REF: TECHNOLOGY_TSO__AUG _2012

Reporting to the Senior Manager – Technology Security, the position holder will Identify and promote industry leading practice for Technology Security, and Security risk management for Safaricom; Ensure effective monitoring and operational management of the functional technology risks within the company’s risk management program; To plan/manage the execution of Technology Security related tasks within existing & new projects. Implement Security policies, standards and procedures; Provide technical security expertise and support to project teams to ensure the efficient use of systems and tools; Drive implementation and monitoring of security aspects of Safaricom Technology infrastructure and applications including vulnerability assessments, penetration testing and resolutions on all technical systems and Provide regular reports on various key aspects of the section’s responsibilities.

The job holder’s key responsibilities will be to:

  • Carry out security vulnerability assessments and penetration testing on Safaricom Business Systems, Data and GSM networks;
  • Minimize and mitigate risks introduced by existing and new technologies, products and services;
  • Advice on mitigation and resolution to the technical resources;
  • Implement Information Security Policies, Standards, Procedures & & Minimum Baseline Standards (aka Checklist/Guideline);
  • Provide input to defining compliance and monitoring metrics for Technology Security;
  • Liaise with Internal & External Auditors in the implementation of System Security audits to ensure that system audit scope will add value to the risk management process.
  • Assist Information Custodians with the resolution of system audit findings;
  • Provide a report detailing resolutions and get sign-offs from the system custodians;
  • Provide feedback regarding progress made on previous system audits;
  • Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot various system security systems including (but not limited to) Content filters, Antivirus, Logging Solutions, Network and Host IDS/IPS;
  • Ensure that all new content threats are addressed;
  • Protect the environment from intrusions/hacks;
  • Update the security technologies by installation of new signatures and patches;
  • Information Security Research - ensure regular updates for all new threats to all technologies implemented in Safaricom (this includes exploits directed at GSM specific technologies);
  • Design network security in new and existing networks;
  • Participate in all technical projects and provide Security requirements in line with information security policies and Standard requirements.
  • Build a security in-depth network and ensure the Firewalls, IPS/IDSs, Network authentication technologies are designed in line with Security best practices.

The ideal candidate should possess the following skills & competencies:

  • Formal 4 year Information Technology Degree from an acknowledged university;
  • Minimum of 3 years System Security experience – in Penetration testing and Vulnerability assessments, IDS/Firewalls/VPN administration, Content filters, Security Scan tools, Network and Systems Administration ;
  • At least one professional Information Security Qualification: CCSP/CISSP/CISM/CISA;
  • Advanced Networking Competencies: CCNA/CCNP;
  • Advanced understanding of the implementation of ISO27000, PCI DSS & COBIT ;
  • Experience in the use of vulnerability assessment tools;
  • Experience in Microsoft & Unix Operating Systems;
  • Advanced understanding of information security technologies such as Firewalls, Host and Network-based Intrusion Detection Systems, Antivirus, web & content filtering solutions, Network Access Control etc.
  • Applications: C, C++, ASP, Visual Basic, Java, PHP, Microsoft SQL – Advanced;
  • Operating Systems: Windows Operating Systems (All), Linux (SuSE, Fedora/RedHat), HP Unix, Solaris and IBM AIX – Advanced;
  • Databases: Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) – Oracle, MS SQL, My SQL, Pervasive SQL –
  • Advanced MsWord; Advanced MS Excel; MS Power point – Advanced and MS Access – Intermediate Analytical and problem solving skills;
  • Must be highly committed, self- motivated, confident, enthusiastic and have the ability to perform well under pressure;

MPESA SUPPORT ANALYST
REF: TECHNOLOGY_MSA__AUG _2012

Reporting to the Senior Manager Enterprise systems Support, the position holder will provide technical support to existing and upcoming Revenue Systems and MPESA applications.

The job holder’s key responsibilities will be to:

  • M-Pesa systems monitoring;
  • Ensuring 99.99% Availability and usability of M-PESA, 3rd party billers connections and data integrity;
  • Investigations and root cause analysis of all incidents and problems affecting M-PESA
  • Documentation of RCA to be submitted for approval within 2 days of the event.
  • Testing and Implementation of new products, services or upgrades;
  • Provide secondary and tertiary support (and management where applicable) for MPESA and all interfaces;
  • Documentation and Policy implementation.

The ideal candidate should possess the following skills & competencies:

  • University Degree in Computer Science or IT Related field;
  • Certification in MCSE/MCSA;
  • Certification in MSSQL Server;
  • Programming skills in any 4GL or a functional programming language e.g. SQL;
  • Oracle DBA training is highly recommended;
  • UNIX/Linux would be an added advantage;
  • 3-4 years experience in a client server environment;
  • 2 years DBA and/or Application Support experience;
  • Highly developed analytical thinking skills;
  • Ability to manage customers and fellow team members;
  • Team player.

SENIOR ANALYST – INTELLIGENCE SYSTEMS
REF: TECHNOLOGY_SAIS__AUG _2012

Reporting to the Enterprise Systems Support (ESS) Manager, the position requires a highly technical person with strong analytical skills. The ideal candidate possesses strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence others. Self-motivated and committed to results. In addition, this role requires excellent project planning/management skills, creativity, and the ability to think strategically.

The job holder’s key responsibilities will be to:

Data Warehousing

  • Gather and analyze data in support of creating a strategy and vision around data storage (data warehousing, OLAP, data mining), information delivery (dashboards, portals, scorecards), and reporting;
  • Proactively analyze data to identify immediate improvement opportunities;
  • Participate in the design and high level modeling of data warehouse and data mart objects;
  • Determine data quality standards required to support analytic and reporting needs. Develop and implements data profiling; and validation routines to support data quality standards. Identify business processes changes that will improve data quality;

Leadership;

  • Lead cross functional teams and show an ability to translate sophisticated analytics into terminology that can be easily understood by business owners;
  • Inspire , up skill and grow junior analysts in the team;
  • Provide the enterprise with the data management and analytics solutions for making good decisions and expanding their own analysis capacity;
  • Train business customers on data warehouse contents, access tools and techniques.

Business Analytics;

  • Develop predictive models solutions for business users on all aspects of product life cycle;
  • Work collaboratively with users in all business units to understand and define relevant reports and dashboards;
  • Define user objectives and goals and design and lead program strategy based on nature of data, processes and needs;
  • Monitor, track and understand industry trends and the factors that drive them;
  • Provide benchmarking and other comparative analyses of similar companies utilizing data mining tools and other data technology tools;
  • Respond to end user queries and request for support. Assists users with the creation of reports. Helps users derive actionable business insights from reports and analysis;

Systems Support

  • Troubleshoot technical and non-technical challenges on key decision systems, BI, FMS, Dealer Manager, CRM, and RAID
  • Manage system capacity and anticipate user demands on resources;
  • Work closely with the IT Development teams to ensure that the requirements as documented are clearly understood and consult with the developers IT teams to validate design assumptions.;
  • Ensure that recommended solutions are not sub-optimal, but fit within the overall information management structure of the enterprise;
  • Draw up operational Level Agreements with the development teams to ensure deployed systems are working systems and service levels are maintained.

The ideal candidate should possess the following skills & competencies:

  • Advanced degree in IT, statistics, economics or math;
  • Unix Certification required;
  • Proficiency in programming languages including MSSQL, PL/SQL and perl;
  • Intermediate training on Database Administration essential;
  • 5 + years experience with system analysis, data analysis, data modeling, master data management, ERP systems, relational database, data warehouse, and OLAP;
  • Excellent skills demonstrating high proficiency in statistical analysis;
  • Excellent communication skills and high profile presentations.

SENIOR ENGINEER -RAN CONFIGURATION & SUPPORT
REF: TECHNOLOGY_SERCS__AUG _2012

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Configuration & Support, the position holder will be responsible for
Providing long term RAN system configuration and support; On callout for 24 hours daily; Providing 2nd line support to RAN system faults escalated from first line maintenance; Interface with the supplier of the RAN equipment and follow up on escalated problem; RAN subsystem upgrades and major network configuration changes; Develop tools for automation and speed up the support processes

The job holder’s key responsibilities will be to:

  • Ensuring RAN systems (GSM, UMTS) and NEs continuously perform within or exceed KPIs;
  • Ensuring RAN systems and operational availability to support customer traffic;
  • Resolution of faults escalated from 1st Line maintenance teams within SLAs;
  • Ensuring all newly integrated RAN equipment follow & adhere to the laid down acceptance criteria;
  • Perform configuration changes on RAN Network elements & S/W upgrades to meet network KPIs;
  • Analyze network KPIs, logs and warnings and initiate corrective measures to resolve complaints and faults.

The ideal candidate should possess the following skills & competencies:

  • 3 years working experience in Telecommunications with at least 2 years’ experience in a GSM (RAN) Environment;
  • Relevant Nokia /Huawei/Ericsson training and experience will be an added advantage;
  • Good understanding of 2G and 3G telecom networks i.e. elements, protocols, services, configuration etc.;
  • Good understanding of Software Upgrades, First Node Implementation, Feature Activations;
  • Experience in IuB over IP and HSDPA offload will be an added advantage;
  • Good working practical knowledge & understanding of RAN;
  • Good working knowledge of UNIX, Linux, Windows, Oracle and SQL based database systems;
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools;
  • Analytical & problem solving skills when handling faults;
  • Must be able to work without supervision & meet tight deadlines/schedules;
  • Presentation skills required occasionally when initiating the use of new procedures & long-term Network fault solutions;
  • Proactive & self-motivated;
  • Good public relations, communication & interpersonal skills when coordinating with contractor /other departments & suppliers;

NOTE: This position is located Western Region of Kenya and the offices are based in Kisumu-Kiboswa area.
