World Bank Consultant (Online Communications Officer)

The World Bank is seeking an enthusiastic and talented online communications expert who can create compelling content and manage day-to-day operations for four country sites within the South Asia region.

The Extended Term Consultant (Online Communications Officer) will be based in New Delhi, India, or Colombo, Sri Lanka, depending on the location of the selected candidate. The successful candidate must be currently living in India or Sri Lanka, or have a strong connection to one of those countries and be willing to relocate. Because this is a locally recruited position, no relocation expenses will be paid.

The job requires writing, editing, selecting, and producing content for the Web, as well as choosing photos and other visual elements. In addition, the candidate must be able to plan online communication strategies, manage an editorial calendar, and advise colleagues about online communication. He or she will report to the communications manager in Washington and also work closely with colleagues in country offices.

Job requirements:
• Editorial background with proven writing and editing skills, strong command of English, and ability to convey complex ideas in a clear, direct, and lively style
• At least 5 years’ experience managing websites, including writing and editing for the Web
• Experience with content management systems (CMS)
• Experience managing social media channels such as blogs, Facebook, and Twitter
• Knowledge of Web metrics, search engine optimization, and online marketing
• Master’s or bachelor’s degree in communications, international relations, public affairs, journalism, political science, or other related discipline, with a minimum of 5 years (with master’s) or 10 years (with bachelor’s) of relevant experience

Desirable attributes:
• Experience in multimedia production (Photoshop, videos, slideshows, podcasts)
• Knowledge of South Asian regional issues, international trends, and political/economic issues related to development
• Project management abilities
• Strong diplomatic, interpersonal, and teamwork skills; demonstrated client orientation; ability to prioritize, work well under pressure, and capably handle multiple tasks within tight deadlines

The selected candidate will be hired as an Extended Term Consultant (with benefits) for one year, renewable for a second year. The appointment duration limit is two years.
