The U.S. Diplomatic Mission in South Africa is seeking an individual for the position of Alumni and Academic Exchange Program Coordinator in the Public Affairs Section (PAS).

Items 1- 5 are ALL REQUIRED

1. Education: University degree from a four-year institution is required.
2. Experience: Minimum three years previous experience in developing and organizing seminars/workshops and other program coordination or outreach activities is required.
3. Language: Level IV English fluency required. (This will be tested).
4. Knowledge: Incumbent must possess knowledge of both South African and U.S. educational systems as well as a keen understanding and awareness
of USG academic and exchange programs.
5. Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent interpersonal skills, judgment and political/cultural sensitivity. Ability to multi-task; flexibility in adapting to a full
range of duties.
- Able to network and communicate with a wide array of South Africans ranging from senior government officials to student and youth exchange
candidates.
- Must have a thorough understanding and command of the internet, social media and previous experience managing a contact databases.

Qualification Required for the Full Performance Level
. In addition to the qualifications required for the Trainee level, applicants must have:
Incumbent should be expert on USG academic exchanges and other USG funded Public Diplomacy programs, including Fulbright, Humphrey and CCI programs.

Job Specification

Basic Function of Position:

Under the general supervision of an American Public Affairs Officer (PAO) and in consultation with Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) Alumni Affairs, is responsible for the national development of Alumni programming to promote greater contact and cooperation among former program participants and ongoing Mission activities. Using broad knowledge of South Africa's institutions and U.S. policy objectives as outlined in guiding documents, works closely with Mission personnel and relevant Washington offices to identify and engage former exchange program participants with the objective of utilizing their experience, skills and professional contacts to further USG interests in South Africa. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that Alumni are well represented on all national selection panels for ECA exchange programs, including but not limited to Fulbright, Humphrey and the Community College Initiative (CCI). Incumbent will be responsible for working with all relevant parties to design and organize conferences, seminars, workshops and other initiatives that promote Alumni projects. Encourages Mission staff to participate in Alumni events and facilitates the participation of Alumni in appropriate Mission programs. Using Alumni and established academic contacts, conducts outreach programs throughout the country, to identify and recruit qualified candidates for a wide range of USG funded academic exchange and other public diplomacy programs. Provides advice and support to American participants of academic exchange programs.
