Position Purpose

JTI has a clear interest to fight illicit trade in order to increase legal sales volumes and prevent our brands being undermined, additionally there are broader societal benefits of increased tax revenues and reduced income for organised crime.
This position will support the fight against illicit trade primarily by:

Supporting the Anti-Illicit Trade Strategy & Communications Director in developing factual material that can aid the company's country offices and HQ functions in their external engagement to enhance the understanding of illicit trade in tobacco products and thereby mobilize governments more strongly against it.

Helping the anti-illict trade team (and by extension the company as a whole) to keep up to date on developments relevant to illicit trade by monitoring media and other relevant channels on a continous basis.

Supporting the Anti-Illicit Trade Strategy & Communications Director on JTI engagement efforts towards think tanks, NGOs and media.

Responsibilities

Continually collect data, argumentation and material that will serve to aid JTI's engagement efforts (primarily by the Anti-Illicit Trade Strategy team and market Corporate Affairs) towards external stakeholders in relation to promotion of JTI's positions on anti-illicit trade. These efforts will enjoy synergistic effect with the monitoring efforts mentioned below, and will also aid the efforts to continuously updade the anti-illicit trade resource library as mentioned below.

Assist the Anti-Illicit Trade Strategy & Communications Director with the production of new text material for the anti-illicit trade resource library, as well as updating of content. The purpose being to ensure that the resource library always remains a up-to-date and useful tool for the country offices in their anti-illicit trade engagement efforts.

Provide and produce accurate and factual supporting anti-illict trade material and text of use to the tax team, media relations, regulatory affairs and country offices as requested by Anti-Illicit Trade Strategy & Communications Director. This in order to assist with the important task of ensuring that JTI speaks with one consistent and accurate voice in relation to anti-illicit trade issues.

Monitor coverage of illicit trade in all media including academic journals and reports - primarily with a focus on tobacco, but also developments of relevance in other industries. Collect and report to ensure that the anti-illicit trade team has good insight into important developments.

Social media monitoring relating to illicit trade: Identify and follow the major illicit trade and organized crime discussion fora on social media. When new JTI guidelines on social media are in place constantly assess the possibility of using social media to facilitate the promotion of enhanced broad based illicit trade awareness by making making key data and facts available to a broader public.

Assist the Strategy & Communications Director's engagement efforts towards think tanks, media and other non-government anti-illicit trade related stakeholders. This includes preparing supportive text and data for op-ed articles, and presentations directly targeting external audiences. Assist in identification of appropriate venues for JTI to participate in and present on anti-illicit trade related topics to reach a broader audience outside law enforcement agencies and finance ministries.

Manage administration of at least one major anti-illicit trade communications project at any one time. All future projects have not been fixed yet, but the intention is to always have a number of ongoing and concurrent major anti-illicit trade strategy & communication projects.

Qualifications & Experience

University degree required, studies in political science, journalism, international relations, or public affairs beneficial.

Experience from government, journalism, politics, NGO, think tank or PR agency would be advantageous. Knowledge of illicit trade issues helpful. Writing & editing skills.

Skills, Competencies & Languages

Native or near-native English skills strong advantage.
