Project Manager - "CardioScape" European Society of Cardiology Brussels, Belgium

The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) is seeking a Project Manager to handle the follow-up and the monitoring a challenging European project called “CardioScape”.

Who are we?

  • The ESC represents over 70,000 cardiology professionals, principally from across Europe and the Mediterranean basin, but also from the rest of the world;
  • The ESC comprises 6 Sub-specialty associations, 5 Councils, 18 Working Groups, 55 National Cardiac Societies, and ESC Fellows and Nurse Fellows;
  • The ESC provides an array of scientific and educational activities, such as the production and continuous updating of Clinical Practice Guidelines, the organisation of educational courses and initiatives, pan-European surveys on specific disease areas;
  • It also organises the ESC Congress, the largest cardiology meeting in the world. The ESC is also proud to hold, in conjunction with its constituent bodies,several subspecialty congresses, which are becoming increasingly popular within the profession;
  • The ESC also edits and publishes 9 of the world's leading journals on cardiology.

The ESC will soon open an Representation Office in Brussels to expand some of its European activities.
This office will host the Project Manager.

What is CardioScape?

"The ESC project proposal entitled “A SURVEY OF THE EUROPEAN CARDIOVASCULAR RESEARCH LANDSCAPE AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FUTURE RESEARCH STRATEGY (CARDIOSCAPE)”, has been favorably evaluated by the European Commission and will be granted € 487 380 over a period of 18 months under the EU FP7 research funding.

CardioScape’s purpose is to carry out a survey of the European CVD research landscape, from which expert opinion can guide investment into identified research gaps, highlight areas where coordination could be improved, and help prioritize future research.

To fulfill its goals, the project will engage with different actors from academia and industry, both SMEs and large companies, and ensure they are part of the consultation process in formulating ways of achieving more effective R&D strategies.

Project Manager main responsibilities

  • Management of the entire project: administration (organisation of meetings, drafting minutes and reports, logistics...), coordination of project key-players contribution to the project, follow-up and monitoring of budget, compliance with budget's timelines;
  • Interface role between the ESC, the project's partners and working groups, and the European Commission;
  • Communication: in charge of internal and external communication (Newsletters, emailing, web pages, social media, etc.);
  • Supervision of a dedicated IT Developer (temporary resource) based in France who's responsility will be to create a database;
  • Regular reporting towards hierarchy and the ESC Board members.

Profile

  • 3 years experience in a Project Management position;
  • Good understanding of the EU institutional framework;
  • Strong Communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multicultural team;
  • Excellent administrative, organisational and communication skills, ability to prioritise;
  • Available for frequent weekly travels;
  • English mother tongue level, other languages an asset;
  • Ability to work both independently and as a strong team player;
  • People Management skills;
  • Strong computer skills.

Information about the position

This Short-Term contract (18 months) is to fulfill immediately.

From October to December 2012 the position will be based in the South of France (Sophia-Antipolis, Headquarters of the ESC) and as of January 2013 in Brussels with frequent travels to Sophia-Antipolis.
