Senior Manager: HME Maintenance based in Johannesburg


Our Continental Africa Region Office (CARO) based in Johannesburg requires a suitably qualified and experienced Senior Manager: HME Maintenance to provide direct output support to the (Vice President) VP Engineering in the development of the Continental Africa Region (CAR) mining operations' management and control of all Maintenance and Repair Contracts (MARC) activities associated with its Heavy Mining Equipment (HME) fleet.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
 The role holder has the following accountabilities and authorities:
  • Ensure that AGA's Mine's Safety, Health & Environment Management System is incorporated in all areas of Engineering to ensure compliance to OSHAS 18001, ISO14001, and AGA company best practices.
  • Model behaviour that is consistent with the AGA Safety Vision and Values;
  • Set departmental health and safety goals annually;
  • Identify and interpret safety risks and resolve emerging issues; and ensuring that appropriate focus and resources area available to achieve safety objectives;
  • Develop, drive and maintain processes to provide a safe workplace to all employees and external service providers undertaking work within your area of accountability.
  • In collaboration with appropriate stakeholders within CAR and on Site, develop processes and procedures for managing outsourced and owner maintenance of Heavy Mining Equipment (HME), as applicable.
  • In collaboration with appropriate stakeholders within CAR and the Finance function, develop templates for HME maintenance outsourcing agreements and ensure alignment with the CAR outsourcing strategy.
  • In collaboration with appropriate stakeholders within CAR and on Site, select appropriate contractors for HME maintenance out-sourcing.  
  • Provide direct output support to the Finance function with the development of contractual policies and commercial infrastructure for out-sourcing components of HME maintenance.
  • Decide parts inventory requirements for new HME, annually review the requirements for existing equipment and ensure alignment with the equipment replacement strategy.
  • Provide direct output support to site management in compiling, interpreting and disseminating current best practice in respect of mobile equipment maintenance and the integration of consumables into the maintenance processes.
  • Develop relationships with OEM's, maintenance service providers, technology suppliers and research bodies.
  • Determine Heavy Mining Equipment maintenance strategy, program and scope e.g. reliability improvement, major components, effectiveness, diagnostics, shift and shut down periods and ensure alignment with replacement strategy.
  • Ensure action plans for reliability improvement & elimination of equipment breakdowns are effectively implemented.
  • Develop an asset integrity program with supporting HME maintenance programs inclusive of BPF requirements to enhance asset reliability and cost efficiency on an on-going basis.
  • Ensure operational health and safety, cost control, equipment availability, reliability and performance, risk mitigating initiatives and contract management are constantly upheld and identifying, implementing and managing continuous improvement projects.
  • Ensure that effective engineering standards and procedures are developed and implemented in compliance with ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 requirements.
  • Developing an organisational structure and competencies for managing HME contract maintenance.
  • The implementation and sustainability of Project ONE with specific reference to the Business Process Framework (BPF) and System for People (SP) to ensure the right person in the right role at the right time doing the right work in the right way.
  • Applying best practice in projects and expenditures and make projections on opportunities to be cost effective.
  • Consistently driving cost saving initiatives related to HME.
  • Ensuring operational cost control in line with set mine budgets and Life of Mine (LOM) Plans.
  • Supporting site management in managing HME maintenance contracts, training staff from OEM/MARC Suppliers and managing relationships with OEM/MARC.
  • Maintaining a professional network (membership of relevant professional bodies), understanding the industry that you operate in.
  • Providing technical specialist support and advice through collateral and cross functional approaches on the formulation and execution of best practices, improvements pertaining to Heavy Mining Equipment maintenance and costs for the CAR mining operations to enable the future.
  • Ensuring that HME maintenance reporting is aligned with standards, guidelines and schedules;
  • Monitoring the effectiveness of the HME maintenance systems, behaviours and practices for continuous improvement and internal / external decision-making / information sharing. 
  • Ensure Equipment Criticality Index for site assets are established.
  • Provide direct output to the VP Engineering by ensuring compliance of all engineering policies, procedures, programs at the CAR mining operations are in line with legislation and regional / corporate standards and guidelines.
  • Provide direct output support to the VP Engineering in identifying and prioritizing of all engineering related risks and liabilities and ensure these risks and liabilities are recorded and monitored against a mitigation action plan.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • BSc Mining Engineering or equivalent tertiary qualification
  • A minimum of 8 years relevant experience in all aspects of effective Heavy Mining Equipment (HME) maintenance practices to meet/improve on Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) standards and MARC management.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office and a working knowledge of planned maintenance software packages.
