AngloGold Ashanti Specialist: Mining Fleet Engineer


Our Continental Africa Regional Office (CARO) based in Johannesburg requires a suitably qualified and experienced Specialist: Mining Fleet Engineer to provide direct output support to the Senior Manager: Mining Fleet in the development of the Continental Africa Region (CAR) mining operations' management and control of all engineering activities associated with its surface Heavy Mining Equipment (HME) fleets and other AGA-owned equipment on the Operations.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:
The role holder has the following accountabilities and authorities:
  • Ensure that Operations' Mine's Safety, Health & Environment Management System are incorporated in all areas of Engineering to ensure compliance to OSHAS 18001, ISO14001, and AGA company best practices;
  • Model behaviour that is consistent with the AngloGold Ashanti Safety Vision and Values;
  • Contribute to the identification of safety risks and resolve and escalating emerging issues that impact on area of accountability and operation e.g. section emergency plan;
  • Maintain processes to provide a safe workplace to all employees and external service providers undertaking work within your area of accountability;
  • Assist the Operations with setting HME Section health & safety goals annually.
  • Provide direct output support to the Senior Manager: Mining Fleet in maintaining and enhancing systems for HME equipment and consumables planning, logistics and management, including technology management.
  • Monitor equipment technical performance for adverse trends, and initiate asset improvement or modification.
  • Provide direct output support to the Senior Manager: Mining Fleet in the development of a budget in line with the CAR engineering strategy
  • Assist the Operations, Maintenance- and Procurement sections with investigating and recommending type and source of most cost effective consumables such as tyres, fuel & fluids management equipment, GET's, drill bits, pumps, lighting plants and other service consumables.
  • Consistently drive cost savings initiatives.
  • Provide direct output to the Senior Manager: Mining Fleet in building HME fleet management capacity e.g. training, practices, procedures and processes etc.  
  • Provide technical specialist support and advice through collateral and cross functional approaches on the formulation of standards, guidelines and the application thereof.
  • Provide technical support to the BU/Mine Sites on diagnostic / problem-solving work pertaining to HME, using own specialist knowledge and expertise to solve problems.
  • Maintain effective working relations on a continuous basis with internal and external stakeholder's /suppliers/ contactors to improve the quality of service and performance of Operations' HME Fleets.
  • Monitoring the effectiveness of the engineering work management systems, behaviours and practices for continuous improvement and internal / external decision-making / information sharing e.g. repetitive equipment failures, equipment performance, equipment maintenance programs to improve life cycle costing;
  • Maintaining a statistical reporting and recordkeeping system for storage and controlling of data;
  • Regularly reviewing operating procedures within area of accountability.
  • Provide direct output support to the Senior Manager: Mining Fleet in identifying risks associated with the application of HME procedures and processes.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • BSc Mining Engineering or Diploma
  • 5 years' experience as Engineer in Heavy Mining Equipment Fleet in a mining environment
  • Experience with modelling of equipment purchase and replacement decisions would be advantageous
