To Invite a Trainer for Conducting Training Sessions on HIV/AIDS for Mass Media Representatives

Purpose of the service: World Vision Armenia is calling for the applications to facilitate training sessions for media representatives on HIV and mobility issues within “Cross-Border Cooperation for HIV/AIDS Prevention and Impact Mitigation in Southern Caucasus and Russian Federation” project.
 
Open to/eligibility criteria and requirements: International trainers are eligible to apply(individuals and companies). Journalists experienced in health issues are invited to conduct three day duration training/master class for about 14 media representatives (print media, local television channels, social media, radio) on HIV and mobility issues. At least 3 years of experience in the relative field is required.
 
Dates for task accomplishment: November 2012, three days (7 hours per day)
 
Location: Tsaghkadzor, Armenia
 
Responsible Party: “Cross-Border Cooperation for HIV/AIDS Prevention and Impact Mitigation in Southern Caucasus and Russian Federation” project coordinator.
 
Major responsibilities:
·         Share the training course program before the training for approval and/or modifications if required.
·         Provide electronic version of training materials, handouts and/or other documents to be copied and distributed to training participants.
·         Conduct three day duration training for the target group.
·         Lead the training using the interactive methodology for the target group.
·         Encourage active participation and motivation to remain interested throughout the training course.
·         Use of case studies.
·         Conduct group work sessions in which journalists will correct articles containing inaccurate or incomplete information on HIV/AIDS/Migration. Journalists will review current coverage of HIV/AIDS issues in the media, discussed ways to increase focus on HIV/AIDS and delved into ethical issues when reporting on HIV/AIDS.
·         Conduct sessions for feature writing activities where journalists conducted interviews and wrote stories.
·         The training should also include practical exercises aimed at reducing stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV.
·         Conduct group discussions on challenges faced in reporting on HIV/AIDS and identifying solutions.
·         File in the Trainer’s report at the end of the training.
 
Expected results:
Training will contribute to 1. Better understanding of HIV/migration issues by journalists; 2. Use of proper language and correct terminology; 3. The increase of media coverage on HIV/AIDS/Migration issues.
 
Training topics and sessions:
·         Accurate reporting on sensitive issues in the media (use of appropriate terminology). Correct messages on HIV prevention;
·        Mitigation of existing stigma/prejudice about HIV in society (particularly as it relates to migration). What role can the media play in fighting stigma and discrimination of people living with HIV and AIDS;
·         Engaging the media representatives in covering HIV, migration, stigma/discrimination, behaviour change;
·         Proved facts versus myths, prejudices and stigmas;
·         Role of mass media in promoting tolerance towards people living with HIV;
·         Ethical aspects of reporting on HIV issues. Tips for interviewing people living with HIV;
·         Privacy and information confidentiality;
·         Tactfulness and objectivity of mass media publications. Protection of people living with HIV from discrimination;
·         Legal aspects of HIV-related issues.

Pre-requisites:
  • WV will cover the following logistics (accommodation, transportation and food) and administrative support for the trainer.
  • WV will provide the trainer with all necessary program related information, etc.
  • WV will organize translation from English to Armenian and vice versa or from Russian to Armenian and vice versa in case of a need. Training language (English/Russian/Armenian).
