Chief Surveyor -Bulyanhulu Gold Mine

POSITION OBJECTIVE

To provide leadership, training and technical support to the Survey Section in order to meet all survey requirements of the underground mine and its general surface and the local exploration areas while maintaining coherency with the national surveying policies and procedures. To administer survey control on mining activities in order to ensure mining activities are carried out in a safe and profitable manner and maintain environmental sustainability.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

• Authorise survey input in mining instructions.
• Develop, implement and monitor survey systems to ensure the mining department & contractors comply with approved designs and follow standards and procedures.
• Ensure that survey operations are carried out as per the BGML Survey code of practise and at optimum costs.
• Administer survey control on mining department ensuring development of mine plans according to designs.
• Plan and supervise the conduct of regular surveys to ensure they are executed with minimal disruption to production or development of the mine.
• Implement employee performance management processes to ensure optimum employee performance and identify and remedy substandard performance and behaviour.
• Provide leadership to the team to ensure that employees and contractors adhere to safety and environmental standards that exceed industry practice and any applicable legislative provisions.
• Provide professional leadership and technical support to the team to ensure the creation of a working environment that is conducive to employees gaining new skills and achieving their full potential through the development and implementation of effective training and mentoring programs.
• Ensure that all activities and processes in Survey are constantly reviewed and continually improved in accordance with technological changes in both mining and surveying equipment and methods.
• Participate in the Mine Planning team of BGML to ensure that company targets for resource exploitation are achieved.
• Participate in the BGML management team to ensure that targets for resources exploitation, capital management, cost control, safe working, employee development, environmental management and corporate governance are achieved.
• Provide survey input in preparing the mining Quality Control processes.
• Prepare timely and accurate end of month reports.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES:

Qualifications:

• Degree in Surveying or an equivalent qualification from a recognized higher learning institution.
• Tanzanian nationals must be Fully Registered Surveyors (FRS) with the National Council of Professional Surveyors (NCPS). Non Tanzanian citizens must qualify for and apply for temporary registration with the NCPS. Such temporary registration must be obtained prior to employment in this capacity.

Experience and skills:

• Minimum of 10 years of practising surveying in an underground mining environment of which at least 6 years were spent in an underground mechanized and conventional mining environment with some exposure to shaft surveying methods.
• Experience in underground and surface engineering projects
• High level of computer proficiency in relevant Survey/CAD Packages.
• The ability to acquire, compile, compute and present data very fast and accurately.
• Able to maintain dynamic, reliable and accurate survey data.
• Subscriber to self checking survey methods and the ability to perform spontaneous check surveys and promote resilience and resourcefulness amongst surveyors.
• Proficiency in various underground surveying methodologies
• Exposure to open pit survey methods
• Exposure to mineral exploration surveying activities
• Knowledge of cadastral surveying
• Knowledge of topographical surveying
• Budgeting and cost analyses aptitude
