Chief Adviser, Economics and Development
Governments can wreck the planet, or they can save it.
Let’s make sure they make the right choice.
The world is changing – and so are we. After 50 years, we’re more determined than ever to find solutions to the great environmental threats of our time. This is your chance to join the world’s leading environmental organisation as we face our biggest challenges yet.
WWF’s strategy is clear: if we’re to safeguard the natural world, we need a strong basis of relevant evidence, knowledge about effective influencing approaches, and the capacity for innovation and big picture thinking. Our Science & Policy Team, which includes six new Chief Adviser posts, was created to drive this work forward.
As Chief Adviser, Economics and Development, you’ll work to integrate strategic economic and development perspectives across our portfolio, helping WWF to have greater influence on the decisions that will matter most for the natural world. With a focus on priority regions (China, India, Brazil, East Africa), and on engagement with governments and the private sector in the UK and EU, you’ll lead or support the development of innovative “pathfinder” projects, help build the capacity of colleagues, enhance WWF’s profile with decision-makers and experts and engage potential change agents in new policy sectors.
A strong understanding of how economic and development planning is undertaken in a range of international contexts is crucial, and you must have a track record of providing strategic leadership in a relevant professional setting. Outstanding communication and influencing skills are also key, and you should have experience of translating complex information and policies into clear, compelling advice and communications for a range of audiences.
Closing date: 09th September 2013
Interviews: Week commencing 30th September 2013
Note: candidates must have permission to live and work in the UK.
