If you have an interest and knowledge of the EU political systems and decision-making institutions we’d like to hear from you at the General Medical Council (GMC). We can give you the chance to support our work in influencing the European and international agenda from a patient safety perspective and strengthen our voice in the medical regulation world.
As the regulator of the medical profession in the UK, our job is to protect, promote and maintain the health and safety of the public by ensuring proper standards in the practice of medicine. Policy-making in the EU and legal/regulatory developments further afield have a significant impact on our work. As part of a small team, you’ll provide administrative and policy support to help ensure we take a joined-up view in response to EU and international initiatives and ensure internal colleagues are aware of relevant policy and legislative changes. It’s a highly varied role that will involve monitoring policy and legislative developments in European and international regulation, drafting briefings for colleagues, organising visits to the GMC, supporting our engagement in the EU, and the work of our European and international networks, such as the Alliance of Health Regulators on Europe and the delivery of the European and International team’s priorities.
Of graduate calibre, you’ll preferably have a background in political science, economics or international relations. The ability to ability to multi-task and deal with people at all levels as well the ability to quickly gain an insight into medical regulation will be essential. In addition, you should have the confidence and credibility to build strong relationships with colleagues across the GMC and with external stakeholders.
