Internship, Maternal & Child Health

The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF)’s Technical Leadership Development Unit is urgently seeking two MPH practicum students to assist with tasks related to the development of the Foundation’s Maternal, Neonatal, Child Health (MNCH) strategy, and project implementation support for the Advancing Community- Level Action for Improving Maternal & Child Health (MCH)/Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT) (ACCLAIM) project.  The position will start the week of September 3, 2013.  Tasks will include but not be limited to the following: 
  • Compile global and country data on MNCH and conduct basic analysis of trends, working closely with the Senior Advisor and SI&E point person for MNCH. Material will be used to inform EGPAF MNCH strategy development. Other tasks related to strategy development may be assigned.
  • Review MNCH technical materials and identify key resource materials on prioritized topics, to be used by global and country office technical leadership.
  • Develop a draft curriculum to support community level intervention under the ACCLAIM operations research project, working closely with Community and MNCH advisors.
  • Support program documentation as needed.
  • Develop an annotated bibliography to accompany a virtual ‘Essential Library’ of key readings on MNCH.
  • Develop a draft curriculum on male involvement in family health, reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health (RMNCH) and prevention of mother to child transmission (PMTCT) to support community level intervention under the ACCLAIM operations research project, working closely with Community and MNCH advisors.
  • Develop draft job aids to support draft male involvement curriculum
  • Working closely with Community and MNCH advisors, adapt curriculum for use, based on comments from technical reviewers and feedback secured during the piloting process in Uganda, Swaziland and Zimbabwe

Required Qualifications
    
  • Must be a candidate for a Master’s Degree in Public Health (MPH)
  • Educational background in Public Health, Global Health, Epidemiology, or Health Policy required
  • Must have completed basic course work in research methods, and in at least one of the following: MCH, community health, training and adult learning methods, and/or behavior change communication.
  • Must have a strong interest in Maternal and Child Health
