Director

An exciting opportunity for someone to lead a unique organisation as it seeks to build Europe’s strategic leadership capacity to address the foreign and security policies of the 21st century. This role will involve working with Europe’s political, military and diplomatic elites to help fashion and advocate for European solutions to some of the world’s most challenging problems, from nuclear weapons, to change in the Middle East.

Job Description

As Director of the ELN you would be responsible for all aspects of the leadership of the organisation. This makes for a varied and demanding role, covering the following:

1. The leadership and development of the ELN staff;
2. The leadership of the ELN’s policy and research agenda;
3. Ensuring the ELN has a high profile among relevant stakeholders and in UK, European and wider international media;
4. Leading fundraising efforts;
5. Liaising with the Board of Directors;
6. Responsibility for the financial management of the organisation;
7. The management of the ELN’s strategic partnerships;

Applicant Requirements

Essential Requirements:

• A clear track-record of publishing on international security issues and/or on the role of Europe in international affairs;
• Knowledge of the nuclear issue is preferred but the successful applicant need not be an expert on nuclear issues;
• A track record of fundraising to support research and policy work;
• Experience of, and confidence in, dealing with senior policy-makers and political figures in the day to day conduct of your work;
• Previous experience of line-managing staff;
• Demonstrated experience of managing projects on time and to budget;
• Previous experience of working with the media;
• A track record of public speaking on relevant issues.

Preferred Requirements

• Knowledge of the politics of one or more European country outside the UK;
• A working knowledge of at least one other European language beyond English.
