Job Summary:  The Engagement Officer is a key member of the Engagement team, and provides leadership in expanding Landesa’s base of individual support, with a focus on major donors. The Officer will be a dynamic, experienced individual who will cultivate and solicit contributions in support of Landesa’s mission. The Engagement Officer will partner with the Director of Engagement in the development and execution of strategies for Landesa’s ongoing major donor efforts, as well as a newly-launched multi-year, multi-million dollar campaign. The Engagement Officer will manage a portfolio of individual prospects and maintain relevant donor records in Landesa’s donor database.
Reporting and relationships: The Engagement Officer reports directly to the Director of Engagement.
Availability:  The Engagement Officer will be expected to work a standard work week of 40 hours and may be required to work in the evenings and on weekends occasionally. The position will require travel of up to 30 days/year domestically and internationally.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Develops and executes a plan for the expanding major donor efforts of the organization, in collaboration with the Director of Engagement, Engagement Coordinator, and other staff.
  • Maintains a portfolio of major donors and regularly identifies opportunities to cultivate, steward, and solicit these donors, including in-person meetings.
  • Actively identifies new prospects, including those in new markets outside of the Seattle area.
  • Oversees the development of a “moves management” system for Landesa’s current and potential major donors.
  • Collaborates with the Engagement Coordinator and Director on the creation, execution, and evaluation of major donor events, including an annual gala lunch.
  • Coordinates the activities of Landesa’s current multi-year fundraising campaign.
  • Helps to establish and achieves specific annual goals for new donors, donor retention, and individual contributions received.
  • Develops a deep knowledge of Landesa’s various projects and initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Passion for Landesa’s mission to improve the lives of the world’s poorest people through land ownership and secure land rights.
  • Demonstrated fundraising success, including expanding a donor base.
  • Strong people skills, including networking and relationship development.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills, including English grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge or similar donor database.
  • High level of working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, as well as other technology including Adobe and the Internet.
  • Past experience with multi-year campaigns preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a range of people at all levels, including management and staff, board members, and donors.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality for all organizational, personnel, and research matters.
  • Demonstrates exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail; strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines and work gracefully under pressure.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability when working in a fast changing environment.
  • Excellent cross-cultural skills and proven ability to work with multiple people of varying backgrounds.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s or undergraduate degree required; masters preferred.
  • Minimum of five years working within the fundraising function of non-profit organization; experience with major donors required.
  • Experience working with an international organization preferred.
