Locally engaged staff – Policy Adviser – Part Time (20 hours per week) – Fixed term employment contract of 18 months.
The New Zealand Embassy and Mission of New Zealand to the European Union wishes to recruit a Policy Adviser, on a fixed term contract starting on Monday 6 January 2014and concluding on Friday 5 June 2015.We are looking for someone who has:
  • Strong analysis, drafting and reporting skills;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Experience in or knowledge of economic and foreign policy with a particular focus on countries to which the New Zealand Embassy in Brussels is accredited, particularly Bulgaria and Romania;
  • Excellent knowledge of European institutions would be an advantage;
  • Experience in or knowledge of bilateral relations the European Union has with the Asia, Caribbean and Pacific countries.
In this busy position, you will be responsible for conducting research and analysis, preparing policy reports on areas of key strategic interest to the Embassy. You will also support the Embassy’s engagement with government officials, local contacts and the business sector in its countries of accreditation.
The successful applicant should have a sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications as well as excellent written and oral communication skills.
Fluency in written and spoken English is essential. Other languages (any of French, Dutch, Bulgarian or Romanian) would be an advantage.
Applicants must have the right to reside and work in Belgium. The successful applicant will be registered employed under local terms and conditions and will be responsible for meeting all personal tax obligations. The successful applicant will be responsible for transfer costs to and from, and for accommodation in, Belgium.
