JOB SUMMARY: The Manager, Communications & Marketing, works to increase the organization’s visibility and brand among its public and professional constituencies, and to support its resource mobilization goals. With the Communications & Marketing team and others in the External Relations Division, the Manager will help develop and execute campaigns, conduct media relations, lead and manage the organization’s presence at major conferences, develop communications and marketing materials, and contribute to strategic planning. The Manager partners with and supports EngenderHealth senior leadership and program staff across the organization in their efforts to promote the organization to new audiences.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop and implement public relations and promotional campaigns that enhance the EngenderHealth brand and its presence among target audiences.
  • Lead and manage media relations which include: developing a media strategy, providing counsel to the president/CEO and senior spokespeople, responding to media inquiries, developing key messages, managing media lists, and tracking placements/impressions.
  • Develop communications strategies and provide counsel and support to EngenderHealth program staff to support their goals and ensure consistent messaging.
  • Mobilize and collaborate with the Communications & Marketing team to ensure the successful development and production of high quality and timely marketing materials. These include: annual reports, print and electronic newsletters, brochures and collateral materials for fundraising, videos, press releases, and speeches/presentations.
  • Develop dissemination strategies for communications materials and support fundraising and policy/advocacy efforts by managing outreach activities/campaigns that promote EngenderHealth.
  • Lead and manage efforts to ensure strong organizational visibility at key international and domestic conferences. This includes ensuring a vibrant booth presence, managing conference publicity, developing collateral materials, ensuring the quality of editorial and branding aspects of presentations, and communicating internally around conference presence and participation.
  • Support the communications and marketing needs of country and global programs, including developing strategy, building skills, and producing collateral materials.
  • Lead efforts to develop and institutionalize standard operating policies and procedures related to communications to ensure efficient and effective collaboration with staff, and support the organization’s visibility goals.
  • Assist in the development of annual work plans and budgets.
  • Oversee the regular maintenance of the Communications & Marketing intranet site to ensure it has updated information and continues to be a resource for staff across the organization.
  • If requested, act on behalf of Director of Communications & Marketing in her absence.
  • Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Demonstrated experience and success working with all media including social media.
  • A record of developing, writing, and producing effective communications materials through print, broadcast, and online media.
  • Managerial experience: strategic planning, budget development and management, supervision, partnering and teamwork skills, and problem solving.
  • Significant experience and/or demonstrated interest in the non-profit sector, reproductive health, women’s rights, or international development.
  • A Master’s or Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience, in communications, public/media relations, fundraising or journalism.
  • Minimum 7 years working in communications and/or advocacy and as a manager.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.
  • Superb communications skills; write and edit communications materials in a timely manner; and make oral presentations.
  • A self-starter with good judgment, the ability to work in a fast-paced, creative environment, and adapt quickly to changing needs and priorities.
  • Ability to successfully represent the agency to its external audiences in a variety of settings.
  • Ability to develop and implement communications, marketing and fundraising strategies.
  • Willingness and the ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
