Director, Programmes & Technical

IPPF is a global service provider and a leading advocate of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) for all.  We are a world-wide movement of national organisations working with and for communities and individuals.
The Director, Programmes & Technical formulates and implements global programmes and technical / medical strategy. You will provide technical leadership on SRHR and integrated service delivery including HIV, safe abortion and comprehensive sexuality education. You will drive cutting edge innovation, and SRHR policy development across IPPF, supporting IPPF Member Associations to ensure that quality and innovation are integral to programme delivery. If you are a senior public health executive, (ideally with a medical background), and have significant global public health / social care and development experience, then join our Senior Management Team and play a key role in the implementation of IPPF’s future strategy.
Working closely with our Director-General, you will lead a multi-disciplinary team managed by senior specialists. With international travel you will build local capacity to develop institutional and financial sustainability. You will strengthen and forge new partnerships with the UN, governments, the private sector and civil society on emerging technical issues; and take an active role on our International Medical Advisory Panel. You will liaise with professional, academic and research institutions to draw expertise into IPPF’s programmes.
You have executive team / Board membership experience and a track record in programmatic and technical delivery strategy implementation; along with a track record in programme development, delivery and evaluation, at regional and country level in low and middle income countries. You have in-depth knowledge of health systems strengthening, ideally in SRHR, and of the role that technology can play in this field.
You are a strategic and visionary thought leader with the ability to anticipate new opportunities for the organisation, and a seasoned people manager of multi-disciplinary teams. You have a high level of cultural acuity and the gravitas and emotional intelligence to act as organizational spokesperson and to build strategic alliances. Ideally you are well known in the SRHR field. You have strong business and political acumen and conceptual and analytical skills. A collaborative and diplomatic leader with the ability to drive change through collaboration, you easily influence and engage others, championing the transformation process.  You have exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Fluent English is essential and other languages are desirable. You have strong project management skills to deliver projects on time, to budget and to a high standard. You have a post-graduate degree (preferably Ph.D.) or equivalent standard of education in social sciences, ideally Public Health or Medicine.
