The Organisation

Plan International UN Office in Geneva is aligned with Plan International’s strategy One Plan One Goal and the organization’s Global Advocacy Strategic Framework (GASF) pursuing contact with key decision-makers who can support the realization of lasting change for children. The mission of Plan International UN Office in Geneva is to improve the situation of children through strategic advocacy activities by influencing the discussion on issues relevant to children and their rights at the UN in Geneva. The Geneva UN Office actively advocates for child rights to be included, promoted and respected in key processes and debates taking place in Geneva, including the Human Rights Council, the Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). The Office also acts as a human rights expertise hub for Plan International’s policy and strategy. It supports Plan International's offices around the world to engage with UN processes that review the human rights situation in their country. These include the monitoring and reporting processes for the CRC and the CEDAW, and the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of the Human Rights Council.
The Position
Playing a key role in the development of a new approach in regard to our Geneva office’s human rights work with relevant United Nations mechanisms, your main objective will be to increase Plan’s influence regarding human rights and contribute to Plan’s global advocacy work worldwide. You will work both internally with Plan offices and teams, as well as externally with key stakeholders, such as UN agencies, Permanent Missions and other INGOs. This is a role with a high degree of autonomy but will also require you to collaborate closely with other Plan offices.
The Person
Are you a creative, bold and strategic thinker with a passion for human rights advocacy? If so, this could be the role for you.
With a Masters degree (or relevant experience) in human rights, political science, international development or other relevant field, you will be an experienced advocate and lobbyist within the international sphere. You should have a good understanding of how NGOs work and, in particular, how the UN operates. Highly developed diplomatic and analytical skills will be essential for this role.
