Press & Media Officer

The Confederation of European Paper Industries (CEPI) is a trade association which promotes the interests of the pulp and paper industry in Europe. We are currently looking for an enthusiastic press and media professional to join our dynamic, 18-person multi-cultural team in Brussels. Job Description
As part of the Communications and Public Affairs team, you will help enhance the pulp and paper industry’s relations with the Brussels and European media and make sure CEPI’s voice is heard in Europe.
Responsibilities
As CEPI’s Press and Media Officer you:
  • Set up plans for press actions in line with CEPI’s communication strategy
  • Build relationships with Brussels-based journalists, understand their needs and interests and advise colleagues on who to contact
  • Write press releases, statements, briefings and other media materials, and ensure their targeted distribution
  • Draft and place opinion articles
  • Keep the media database up to date
  • Deal with incoming media enquiries, alerting colleagues and coordinating responses
  • Archive press coverage and make recommendations for improvement
  • Manage and develop CEPI’s social media presence
  • Work together with CEPI’s Communications Officer to implement the communication plan by designing and delivering communication tools.
Profile      
Essential Requirements:
  • You have excellent written and spoken English;
  • You have a relevant degree-level education, e.g. journalism, public relations or communications;
  • You have at least two years’ experience in working with the media;
  • You have experience in drafting, editing and proofreading press releases, articles, publications and other communication materials;
  • You are comfortable with and have experience in managing social media channels;
  • You work well in a small team;
  • You are persuasive and express yourself clearly both verbally and in writing.
Desirable:
  • Knowledge of the EU institutions;
  • Knowledge of environment, climate change and energy issues;
  • Experience in the trade association field;
  • Experience in journalism;
  • Knowledge of other European languages is an asset (more particularly French and German).
