The organization
The IDH Sustainable Trade Initiative helps to accelerate and upscale sustainability within mainstream international commodity markets. We build ambitious public-private coalitions of companies, civil society organizations and governments around high-impact programs in order to benefit people, planet and profit. With co-funding from the Dutch, Swiss and Danish Governments, and from business partners, IDH organizes development and implementation of public private partnerships in 18 sectors such as coffee, tea, cotton and electronics. IDH is a dynamic organization of 57 staff members based in Utrecht, The Netherlands, with hubs in Vietnam and Indonesia and a number of staff working in African countries.

Monitoring & Evaluation Manager


Position overview
As M&E Manager you are part of the Operations team. You report directly to the Director of Operations and work closely with other members of the Operations team and the Program Managers/Program Officers.

Core job functions
Depending on relevance, importance and urgency the M&E Manager performs independent tasks and projects in the following areas:

Result Measurement Framework (RMF)
  • Manage the new IDH Result Measurement Framework by coordinating all work related to the execution of the RMF and ensuring the measurement of the agreed upon indicators. Facilitate continues improvement of the framework.
  • Work with program teams to distill overarching issues and unclarities and find simple and solid solutions.
  • If appropriate, assist program teams in operationalizing/adjusting the result measurement framework in their programs.
  • Work together with the internal learning team to apply the result measurement framework in impact evaluations and other studies.
Capacity building
  • Build (if needed with external support) the capacity of IDH program staff in M&E, result chain and log frame thinking. Using the DCED as one of the key methodologies.
  • Organize webinars or establish other learning platforms for training of implementing partners.
Reporting and internal control
  • Lead the preparation of an annual plan and annual report in collaboration with the communication department, finance department and program teams.
  • Support the preparation of and participate in Program Reviews, the IDH mechanism to steer and review programs on a strategic and tactic level.
  • Support the development and running of the new project management system, especially related to the Implementing partner reporting.
Competencies
IDH is looking for a bright and organized team player. A fast learner who brings experience in M&E in a development organisation and has a very practical approach to complicated M&E manners. A positive and engaged person who can keep the organization on track toward our ambitious Result Measurement Framework. Vital to have attention to detail and a hands-on mentality while remaining focussed and continue having a bird-eye view.
Requirements
  • Working and thinking at Master degree level
  • Minimum 5 years working experience in M&E of which several in a development organisation
  • Proven experience in internal (and preferably external) capacity building on M&E
  • Knowledge of the DCED framework, intervention logics and theories of change
  • Affinity with sustainability and international development
  • Fluent in English and preferably a second language
