The University of Dar es Salaam invites applications from suitably qualified Tanzanians to be considered for immediate employment to fill the following vacant posts:

1. Job Title: Secretary II (4 posts)
(a) Qualifications and Experience:

Form IV Certificate with credit passes in Kiswahili and English, plus a Certificate in Secretarial Studies/ Technician Certificate in Secretarial Studies, i.e. NTA 5 from a recognized institution.

Possession of a Form VI Certificate with passes in English and Kiswahili will be an added advantage.

Applicants must have completed Advanced Computer Course from a recognised institution.

At least four years relevant work experience

(b) Main Duties:

Types all general correspondence and non-confidential matters;
Types letters, minutes, notices, bulletins and circulars;

Prints reports, letters etc;

Takes proper care of all machines under his/her charge and makes sure they are used for official work only;

Files copies of typed letters in relevant files;

Receives and directs visitors;
Attends telephone calls and takes messages;

Makes sure there are all necessary facilities for proper job performance;
Takes dictation by shorthand;

Uses modern machines in discharging his/her duties; and
Performs any other duties assigned by one’s reporting officer.

(c) Salary Scale: PGSS 11

2. Job Title: Secretary III (6 posts)
(a) Qualifications and Experience:

Form IV Certificate with credit passes in Kiswahili and English, plus a Certificate in Secretarial Studies/ Technician Certificate in Secretarial Studies, i.e. NTA 5 from a recognized Institution.

Possession of a Form VI Certificate with passes in English and Kiswahili will be an added advantage.

3. Job Title: Assistant Accountant I (1 post)
(a) Qualifications and Experience:

Holder of B.Com / Advanced Diploma in (Accounting)

A minimum of five years relevant working experience.

(b) Main Duties:

Performs variety of accounting tasks including receiving and paying out cash and cheques;

Maintains fuel and accurate accounts records;
Prepares trial balances;

Checks the correctness of claims and retirements ensuring that they are supported by appropriate authority/evidences;

Custodian of accountable documents; and

Performs any other duties assigned from time to time by one’s reporting officer.

(c) Salary Scale: PGSS 12 – 13

4. Job Title: Assistant Accountant II (8 posts)
(a) Qualifications and Experience:

Holder of B.Com (Accounting)/ADA/Professional Level II or its equivalent.
A minimum of three years relevant working experience.

(b) Main Duties:

Receives and keeps in proper custody all incoming bills and claims;
Maintains primary books of accounts;

Prepares payment requisitions;
Preparing of journal voucher/batches for various activities;

Preparing various payment reports, schedules and lists of various expenditures;

Maintaining vote book and various registers (e.g. debtors, imprest creditors); and

Performs any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by his/her senior.

(c) Salary Scale: PGSS 10 - 11.

5. Job Title: Accounts Assistant (7 posts)
(a) Qualifications and Experience:

Holder of Ordinary Diploma in Accounting/ATEC II/NABOCE with at least five years relevant work experience.

(b) Main Duties:
Prepares journal voucher/batches for various activities;

Receives and keeps in proper custody all incoming bills and claims;
Maintains primary books of accounts;

Prepares payment requisitions; and

Performs any other duties that may be assigned to him/her from time to time.

(c) Salary Scale: PGSS 8 - 9

6. Job Title: Procurement and Supplies Officer (3 posts)

(a) Qualifications and Experience:

Holder of Bachelor Degree/Advanced Diploma in Procurement and Logistics /Materials Management plus CPSP.

Must be registered by PSPTB.
At least three years work experience.

(b) Main Duties:

Coordinates procurement and materials management matters at Colleges / Schools/Institutes/Directorate level;

Prepares procurement plan for Colleges/ Schools/ Institutes/ Directorate level;

Supports the functioning of the tender board;

Implements the decision of the tender board;
Acts as secretariat of the tender board;

Prepares monthly reports for the tender board;
Maintains an archive records of the procurement and disposal process; and

Performs any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by his/her senior.

(c) Salary Scale: PGSS 14 - 15

7. Job Title: Assistant Procurement and Supplies Officer II (1 post)

(a) Qualifications and Experience:

Holder of an Ordinary Diploma/ NTA 6 in Procurement and Logistics /Materials Management.

Must be registered by PSPTB.

(b) Main Duties:

Assists in procurement and materials management matters at Colleges / Schools/Institutes/Directorate level;

Assists to prepare procurement plan for Colleges/ Schools/ Institutes/ Directorate level;

Assists in all procurement activities at College/School/Institute/ Directorate and liaise with PMU; and

Performs any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by his/her senior.

(c) Salary Scale: PGSS 6 -7

8. Job Title: Laboratory Technician II (12 posts) in the following University

units:

(a) Qualifications:

COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES AND FISHERIES TECHNOLOGY (CoASFT)

i. Laboratory Technician II - Food Science & Technology (1 post); should have FTC/ Diploma/ NTA Level 6 in food Science from a recognized institution.

ii. Laboratory Technician II - Bee Keeping (1 post); should have an FTC/Diploma/ NTA Level 6 in Bee Keeping from a recognized institution.

SCHOOL OF HEALTH SCIENCES (SoHS)

Laboratory Technician II - Biochemistry (1 post); Should have FTC/Diploma/ NTA Level 6 in Medical Laboratory Technology from a recognized institution.

COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY (CoET)

i. Laboratory Technician II - Textile Engineering (1 post); Should have FTC/ Diploma in Laboratory Technology from a recognized institution.

ii. Laboratory Technician II - Mechanical engineering (1 post); should possess an FTC/ Diploma/ NTA Level 6 in Mechanical or Automobile Engineering from recognized institution.

iii. Laboratory Technician II Plumbing (1 post); should possess an FTC/ Diploma/ NTA level 6 in Civil or Water Resources Engineering from a recognized institution.

iv. Laboratory Technician II - Electrical engineering (1 post), should possess an FTC/ Diploma/ NTA level 6 in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution.

v. Laboratory Technician II - Petroleum engineering (1 post); should possess an FTC/ Diploma/ NTA level 6 in Mining Engineering from a recognized institution.

vi. Laboratory Technician II - Chemical & Process (1 post); should possess an FTC/ Diploma/ NTA Level 6 in Chemical Laboratory Technology from a recognized institution.

COLLEGE OF NATURAL AND APPLIES SCIENCES (CoNAS)

i. Laboratory Technician II - Botany (1 post); should have FTC/ Diploma/ NTA Level 6 in Botany or its equivalent from a recognized institution.

ii. Laboratory Technician II - Geology (1 post); should have FTC/ Diploma/ NTA Level 6 in Geology and Mining Exploration from a recognized institution.

iii. Laboratory Technician II - Molecular Biology & Biotechnology (1 post); should have FTC/Diploma/NTA Level 6 in Medical Laboratory Technology or its equivalent from a recognized institution.

(b) Experience:

Applicants for all Laboratory Technician II positions should have at least four years relevant work experience.

(c) Main Duties:

Carries out specified tasks connected with research, laboratory practical, students' projects, consultancy and services under close supervision;

Assists in the repair and maintenance of laboratory or workshop facilities;
Assists senior staff in relevant fields of operation; and

9. Job Title: Technician II (5 posts) Department: Estates

(a) Qualifications

i. Technician II - Carpentry (1 post); should have FTC/Diploma/NTA level 6 in Carpentry or Civil Engineering from a recognized institution.

ii. Technician II - Electrical (2 post); should have FTC/Diploma/NTA Level 6 in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution.

iii. Technician II - Masonry (1 post); should have FTC/Diploma/NTA Level 6 in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution.

iv. Technician II - Plumbing (1 post); should have FTC/Diploma/NTA Level 6 in Civil or Water Resources Engineering from a recognized institution.

(b) Experience:

Applicants for all Technician II positions should have at least four years relevant work experience.

(c) Main Duties:

Liaises with Estates Management and respective section on matters pertaining to the smooth operations of repairs and maintenance in all UDSM facilities;

Advises on routine/periodic and emergency maintenance;
Plans and implements of all repairs and maintenance in all UDSM facilities;

Assists senior staff in relevant fields of operation; and

Performs any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by his/her senior.

(d) Salary Scale: PGSS 7-8

10. Job Title: Laboratory Technician I (1 post)

Department: Transportation and Geotechnical Engineering

(a) Qualifications and Experience:

Holder of FTC/Diploma in Civil/Highway Engineering from a recognized institution

A minimum of five years relevant working experience.

(b) Main Duties:

Carries out, independently, specified routine technical tasks which require a higher degree of technical knowledge and skills;

Implements specified maintenance plans for laboratory facilities;

Implements specified technical plans and designs connected with research students' practical and consultancy work; and

Performs any other duties as may be assigned by one’s reporting officer.

(d) Salary Scale: PUSS 3.1 – 3.5

11. Job Title: Cartographic Technician I (1 post)

(a) Qualifications and Experience

Form IV with Full Technician's Certificate or Diploma in Cartography with at least four years working experience in a similar position in related or allied institution.

At least five years working experience in similar position.

(b) Main Duties:

Compiles, designs, and produces maps of all kinds, e.g. topographic, thematic, etc.

Makes decisions on materials and instruments to be used.

Advises on production systems to follow.
Makes cost calculations for map production processes; and
Performs any other duties assigned from time to time by one’s reporting officer.

(c) Salary Scale: PUSS 3.1 – 3.5

12. Job Title: Laboratory Assistant II (7 posts) in the following units:

(a) Qualifications:

COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES AND FISHERIES TECHNOLOGY (CoASFT)

Laboratory Assistant II - Aquaculture (1 post); should possess a Certificate of Secondary Education plus Trade Test Grade I or Certificate of Competence Level III in Aquaculture or Fisheries from a recognized institution.

SCHOOL OF HEALTH SCIENCES (SoHS)

Laboratory Assistant II - Physiology (1 post); Should possess a Certificate of Secondary Education plus Trade Test Grade I or Certificate of Competence Level III in Laboratory Technology specializing in blood transfusion and haemalogy.

COLLEGE OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES (CoICT)

Laboratory Assistant II - (1 post); should possess a Certificate of Secondary Education plus Trade Test Grade I or Certificate of Competence Level III in Electronics/ ICT/ IT from a recognized institution.

COLLEGE OF HUMANITIES (CoHU)

Laboratory Assistant II - Foreign Languages (1 post); should possess a Certificate of Secondary Education plus Trade Test Grade I or Certificate of Competence Level III in Computer and Information Technology.

COLLEGE OF NATURAL AND APPLIED SCIENCES (CoNAS)

i. Laboratory Assistant II - Zoology (1 post); should possess a Certificate of Secondary Education plus Trade Test Grade I or Certificate of Competence Level III in Laboratory Technology.

ii. Laboratory Assistant II - Botany (1 post); should possess

Certificate of Secondary Education plus Trade Test Grade I or Certificate of Competence Level III in Laboratory Technology.

Any knowledge in relevant botanical sciences will be an added advantage.

COLLEGE OF ENGINERING AND TECHNOLOGY (CoET)

Laboratory Assistant II - Welding (1 post); should possess a Certificate of Secondary Education plus Trade Test Grade I or Certificate of Competence Level III in Mechanical / Welding from a recognized institution.

(b) Experience: At least four (4) years relevant work experience.

(c) Main Duties:

Carries out specified tasks connected with research, laboratory practical, students' projects, consultancy and services under close supervision;

Assists in the repair and maintenance of laboratory or workshop facilities;
Assists senior staff in relevant fields of operation; and

Performs any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by his/her senior.

(d) Salary Scale: PUSS 1.5

13. Job Title: Laboratory Scientist II (2 posts) in the following university units:

(a) Qualifications:

COLLEGE OF NATURAL AND APPLIED SCINCES (CoNAS)

Laboratory Scientist II - Zoology and Wildlife Conservation (1 post); Should possess B.Sc. in Zoology/ Biology or any relevant Degree in Biological Sciences from a recognized institution.

COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURAL    SCIENCES    AND    FISHERIES
TECHNOLOGIES (CoASFT)

Laboratory Scientist II - Aquatic Science & Fisheries (1 post); Should possess B.Sc. or Advanced Diploma in Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries or its equivalent from a recognized institution.

(b) Experience: At least four years experience in similar position.

(c) Main Duties:

Organizes practicals for undergraduate students;
Participates in consultancy projects under close supervision of senior staff;

Assists academic staff in their research and development activities;
Plans and supervises maintenance of laboratory/workshop facilities;

15. (a)   Job Title: Laboratory Engineer I (1 post)

Department: Chemical and Mining Engineering

(b) Qualifications and Experience:

Holders of B.Sc. in Mining Engineering from a recognized institution with at least five years relevant working experience in a similar position.

(c) Main Duties:

Organizes practicals for undergraduate students;

Participates in consultancy projects under close supervision of senior staff;

Assists academic staff in their research and development activities;

Plans and supervises maintenance of laboratory/workshop facilities;
Guides technicians and artisans in their daily activities; and

Performs any other duties that may be assigned to her/him from time to time.

(d) Salary Scale: PUSS 4.1 – 4.5

16. Job Title: Library Assistant III (10 posts)
(a) Qualifications and Experience:

Form VI certificate with two Principal Passes or Form IV certificate plus a Certificate in Library studies or successful completion of the Government Lower Standard Library examination.

At least four (4) years relevant work experience.

(b) Main Duties:

Performs more routine and clerical duties e.g. handling of simple enquiries from readers, bibliographical searching, collection of Library statistics etc. as determined by one’s reporting officer; and

Performs any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by his/her senior.

(d) Salary Scale: PGSS 5 – 6

17. Job Title: Library Officer II (4 posts)
(a) Qualifications and Experience:

Holder of First Degree in Library Studies.
At least four years working experience in similar position.

(b) Main Duties:

Carries out routine professional duties;
Processes added copies and continuations;

Maintains public and staff catalogues;
Ensures proper shelving of books and periodicals;

Copies catalogues with CIP data;
Handles inter library loans-gifts and exchanges; and

Performs any other duties that may be assigned to her/him from time to time.

(c) Salary Scale: PGSS 11 – 12


18. Job Title: Medical Officer II (6 posts)
(a) Qualifications and Experience:

Holder of a Medical Degree from a recognized University with at least four years of relevant working experience in a similar position and must have obtained full registration as Medical Officer/Dental surgeon with Tanganyika Medical Council.

(b) Main Duties:

Undertakes all medical duties pertaining to internal medicine, surgery; obstetrics and gynecology, pediatric diseases and preventive medicine;

Attends general outpatient clinics; and

Performs any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by his/her senior.

(c) Salary Scale: PMGSS 10


19. (a)   Job Title: Trained Nurse/Midwife I (1 post)

(b) Qualifications and Experience:

Holder of Form IV certificate plus a Nurse/Midwife certificate or Public Health Nurse Certificate.

A minimum of four years relevant working experience.

(c) Main Duties:
Performs general nursing care of patients;

Performs maternal and child care services;

Administers drugs and treatment as prescribed by the Medical Officers;

Provides health education on family planning, nutrition, vaccination, sanitation and child spacing;

Monitors pregnancy development; and

Performs any other duties as may be assigned by one’s reporting officer.

(d) Salary Scale: PMGSS 5

20. Job Title: Trained Nurse/Midwife II (10 posts)
(a) Qualifications and Experience:

Holder of Form IV certificate plus a Nurse/Midwife certificate or Public Health Nurse Certificate.

(b) Main Duties:

Undertakes all medical duties pertaining to internal medicine, surgery; obstetrics and gynecology, pediatric diseases and preventive medicine;
Attends general outpatient clinics; and

Performs any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by his/her senior.

(c) Salary Scale: PMGSS 4

21. Job Title: Nursing Assistant II (15 posts)

(a) Qualifications and Experience:

Holder of National Form IV Certificate who has completed a one year pre-nursing course from a recognized Nursing Training Centre with at least four years relevant working experience in a similar position.

(b) Main Duties:

Maintains cleanliness of the infrastructure including floors, walls, windows lockers, toilets bathrooms and surroundings, as well as making beds and tiding rooms and wards;

Ferries and distributes food to patients;

Assists nurses in administering drugs, dressing wounds and administration of intramuscular injections only;

Monitors and records temperature, blood pressure and purse;
Takes specimen; and

Performs any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by his/her senior.

(c) Salary Scale: PMOSS 3

22. Job Title: Clerical Officer I (2 posts)
(a) Qualifications and Experience:

Form VI certificate with two principal passes in Arts subjects and must have a credit pass in English at “O” level plus a Certificate in Records Management.

A minimum of four years relevant working experience in a similar position.

(b) Main Duties:

Maintains file movement record cards;
Looks for files and collects them whenever required;

Returns files to the cabinets and arranges them in proper order;
Keeps ready files marked B.U. for the Supervisor;

Weeds out inactive files, i.e. old closed volumes, files for people who have died, resigned, retired and those who have been dismissed or terminated;

Checks files in the cabinets periodically and ensures order and neatness; and
Performs any other duties as may be assigned by one’s reporting officer.

(c) Salary Scale: PGSS 8 – 9

23. Job Title: Administrative Officer III (2 posts)

(a) Qualifications and Experience:

Holder of a University degree in Public Administration, Management, Sociology, Human Resource Management and Law and any other relevant field.

(b) Main Duties:

Deals with general office administration with minimum supervision in one among sections falling within manpower and administration functions.

(c) Salary Scale: PGSS 7


24. Job Title: Inspector of Works I (1 post)

(a) Qualifications and Experience:

Holder of a B.Sc. Degree in Civil Engineering or Architecture, or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.

At least four years working experience in similar position.

(b) Main Duties:

Implements maintenance policies pertaining to buildings;

Evaluates maintenance progress reports and makes recommendations;
Advises on issues related to the maintenance and repair of buildings;

Maintains the necessary drawings and maintenance manuals required for effective and efficient maintenance operations on buildings and equipment; and

Performs any other duties assigned by one’s reporting officer.

(e) Salary Scale: PGSS 10 – 11


25. Job Title: Janitor I (1 post)

(b) Qualifications and Experience:

Diploma in Education or Home Economics or equivalent qualification preferably with past experience in related field.

At least four years working experience in similar position.

(c) Main Duties:
Assists in supervising hall attendants;

Assists in enforcing students' rules and regulations;
Assists in keeping and maintaining proper residence records;

Assists in ensuring security in and around halls of residence; and
Performs any other duties prescribed by one’s reporting officer.

(d) Salary Scale: PGSS 8 – 9

26. (a)   Job Title: Insurance Officer I ( 1 post)

(b) Qualifications and Experience:

Bachelor degree/Advanced Diploma in Insurance or equivalent.

At least four (4) years relevant working experience in a similar position.

(c) Main Duties:

Assists in arranging adequate cover for existing general

policies;
Helps in studying insurance need at the University;

Understudies seniors in all aspects of Insurance and claims at the University;

Helps in the initiation of new insurance coverage where they do not exist;

Handles insurance claims arising out of the risks of fire, group/personal accident, workmen's compensation, cash-in-transit, public liability, motor vehicles, marine, fidelity guarantee, burglary and all risks; and

Performs any other duties assigned by one’s reporting office

(d) Salary Scale: PGSS 10 – 11

27. (a)   Job Title: Transcriber II (Sign Language Interpreter) (1 post)

(b) Qualifications and Experience:

Applicants should possess the following academic and professional qualifications:

Holder of Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education for the Deaf from a recognized and reputable institution.

(c) Main Duties:

Assists in facilitating communication between hearing and deaf/hard-of-hearing consumers;

Provides students with sign language interpreter services in educational settings, including classrooms, conferences, field trips, meetings with school staff, telephone calls, after-school and extracurricular activities, and other school-related functions and activities for students and staff;

Translates sign language into English and Swahili in Academic presentation i.e. Seminars, Workshops and Conferences;

Becomes aware of students’ language and skill levels, ensuring appropriate interpreting techniques;

Reviews students Individualized Education Plan (IEP), as appropriate;

Monitors the need for assistive technology, including hearing aids, cochlear implants, teletypewriter (TTY), closed captioning systems, frequency modulation (FM) amplification systems, and other assistive technology;

Facilitates communication between hearing and deaf/hard-of-hearing consumers; and

Performs any other duties as may be assigned by one’s reporting officer

(d) Salary Scale: PUSS 5.1
