Communications Intern at PlasticsEurope

PlasticsEurope is one of the leading European trade associations with centres in Brussels, Frankfurt, London, Madrid, Milan and Paris. We are networking with European and national plastics associations and have more than 100 member companies, producing over 90% of all polymers across the EU28 member states plus Norway, Switzerland and Turkey. 
 
The European plastics industry makes a significant contribution to the welfare in Europe by enabling innovation, creating quality of life to citizens and facilitating resource efficiency and climate protection. More than 1.45 million people are working in about 60,000 companies (mainly small and medium sized companies in the converting sector) to create a turnover in excess of 300 bn EUR per year. The plastics industry includes polymer producers - represented by PlasticsEurope, converters - represented by EuPC and machine manufacturers - represented by EUROMAP.
 
We are looking for a Communications Intern for 3 months with a possibility to extend to six months internship to support its public affairs department.  
 
The position is for a highly motivated, well organised and efficient candidate who is looking to gain hands-on EU policy and communications experience, as well as country and issue-specific knowledge. 
 
Responsibilities: 
  • Assisting in compiling daily and weekly media reporting
  • Drafting press releases and news stories for the website
  • Assisting in planning, writing and managing e-newsletters
  • Searching for and updating media contact
  • Scouting for new ideas, directions and tools for communication activities of Public Affairs Team
  • Creating content, drafting content for different social media platforms
  • Monitoring trends in social media
  • Supporting Public Affairs Team in conference preparation
Requirements: 
  • An undergraduate degree or in pursuit of a degree, preferably in Media, (Digital) Communication studies, Journalism or similar 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Prior experience in media/press is an advantage
  • Knowledge of leading social media platforms
  • Must be internet savvy and have a strong interest in social media
  • Analytical skills and ability to digest complex information into concise and informative briefs; 
  • Strong research skills with the ability to pay close attention to detail; 
  • Knowledge of other European languages would be an asset; 
  • Knowledge of European affairs and EU institutions would be an asset; 
  • Possession of an EU passport, student visa, or other means of residing in Belgium for a minimum of six months.
