Communications Specialist, Bangladesh

Communications Specialist, Bangladesh
ACDI/VOCA is currently seeking a Communications Specialist for the USAID-funded Feed the Future Bangladesh Rice and Diversified Crops Activity (RDC). The activity will be a five-year primary mechanism to support productivity and market systems development under USAID/Bangladesh’s FTF strategy, with the objective of improved food security through systemic changes that increase rural incomes and – via increased incomes, including women’s income, and incentivized crop diversification – to improved nutrition. USAID/Bangladesh’s new RDC activity will foster growth and reduce poverty through improving the competitiveness, inclusiveness, and resilience of rice and other selected crops in the FTF Zone of Influence (ZOI) to the benefit of large numbers of men and women and their families in rural households, farms, and market systems.
Responsibilities:
  • Manages all communications strategies and activities including internal and external communication of adaptive management processes and tools.
  • Implements the Social and Behavioral Change (SBC) Communication strategy with activity partners and stakeholders. Conducts trainings and research related to SBC and communication.
  • Assists in the development of an SBC strategy for the activity. Conducts research to inform the SBC communication strategy, including barrier analysis, market segmentation, identification of existing messaging materials, identifying priority and influencing groups.
  • Leads and trains activity team on how to conduct barrier analyses as a method for identifying behavior change-related messaging for the activity.
  • Ensures compliance with communications and branding policies and standards set by USAID, Feed the Future, ACDI/VOCA, and the host government.
  • Executes promotional materials, communications and learning deliverables and related activities and products.
  • Supports technical staff in the collection and writing of success stories, lessons learned, case studies and other learning communications.
  • Helps prepare and coordinate quarterly and annual performance reports for USAID.
  • Develops and updates information for the project website.
  • Represents ACDI/VOCA to USAID, government, media, partners, and beneficiaries and serves as principal contact for local and international press and media.
  • Performs other duties and undertakes other projects as may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or other related field.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in progressively more responsible roles, developing strategic communications strategies and working with domestic and international media.
  • Proven ability in successfully designing and implementing social and behavior change communications strategies.
  • Experience conducting barrier analyses preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to write in a range of styles for different audiences including press, policymakers, corporations, technical experts, funders, and the general public in a clear, concise, well-organized manner.
  • Proven ability to manage publications from conceptualization to completion.
  • Proven knowledge of international development theory, practices, and issues.
  • Advanced knowledge of communications and media for international development programs.
  • Photography, graphic or web design experience required.
  • Proven ability to use the Microsoft Office Suite software as well as publishing and web development software.
  • Fluency in English and Bangla, written and oral.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
