Primary Education Professional Development Specialist

• Based in Vientiane, Lao PDR
• Long term contract, 15 months duration

The Program

Coffey is currently managing the Australian Aid funded Basic Education Quality and Access in Lao PDR (BEQUAL). The goal of BEQUAL is to ensure all girls and boys, especially those experiencing disadvantage, complete a quality basic education to achieve literacy, numeracy and other life skills. The program will address education policy, planning and coordination, increased child participation in and access to basic education, teacher education, curriculum and materials development and improved school infrastructure.

Coffey through BEQUAL is currently seeking applications for this specialist position to support with teacher education and curriculum development activities.

The Position

This position will work closely with BEQUAL Advisers and MoES colleagues to support the development of strategies and materials for pedagogical advisers who support the professional development of primary classroom teachers; as well as the development of policies and strategies for implementing primary teacher in-service programs in Lao PDR.

The Person

The ideal candidate will have at least a Masters degree in Education and demonstrated experience in developing in-service or continuing professional development programs for primary teachers; ideally combined with experience in primary classroom teaching. A strong interest or previous experience applying your expertise in a developing country context and ability to mentor colleagues from diverse backgrounds is required for success.
