Description:
INTU-iT Open College is an institution that provides tuition-free education in Information Technology, Business and the Arts to people who hitherto would not have had access to a higher education due to financial constraints. The College, a not-for-profit institution, was established in July, 2011 by INTU-iT Ghana Limited. The College expects to train at least 6,000 students in its first year of operations and up to 45,000 students by 2013.

The Chief Information Officer (CIO) is responsible for leading the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the technology infrastructure that supports the College's initiatives to bridge the education gap. The CIO will provide technical and leadership experience to implement the College's strategic development of its goals and priorities.

Role:

  • Develop strategies to manage the design, development and tactical implementation of the college's information technology initiatives.
  • Assess and analyze the needs of the college and recommends priorities for studies, systems designs and implementation including computer operations, data management, systems design/analysis, systems programming, application programming, networks and technical support.
  • Manage the selecting and purchasing of all of the hardware, software and network devices in addition to any contracts for consultant services, selecting the most cost efficient options that will effectively meet the universities operating needs.
  • Ensure that an adequate level of security exists for all automated information systems and that all staffs are adequately trained in security information technology issues to assure protection and control of information and data.
  • Provide technical guidance for the modernization and maintenance of IT policies, guidelines and management.

Desired Competencies:

  • Demonstrated leadership experience, ability to generate and execute strategies to increase efficiency of IT projects, ability to generate creative ideas to improve services, cut costs and increase efficiencies within organizations and ability to work under pressure and with diverse personalities.
  • Experience serving as advisor to executive management on broad IT issues.
  • Familiar with more than one software development methodology.
  • Ability to discern user requirements and develop specifications.
  • Has contributed to one or more open source projects.
  • Skill with CSS, XHTML, one or more Javascript frameworks, and AJAX.
  • Knowledge of web standards.
  • Experience with UNIX system administration and web server configuration.
  • Knowledge of Internet protocols and RFC standards, database management systems, and control systems.
  • Familiarity with technical requirements of Internet marketing and search engine optimization.
  • Familiarity with information security vulnerabilities and risk management.

INTU-iT Open College will cover travel expenses of Volunteers who will travel to Accra in addition to paying them a stipend.

Qualification:
  • College degree required.
  • 2+ years in a management position dealing with wide range of IT issues including both IT operational and system development experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
