English Language Projects Manager, Algeria

Based in Algiers

Contract: 2 years starting September 2011

You must read the vacancy information before completing the application form.

The British Council is recruiting an English Language Projects Manager for Algeria. UK passport, degree and TEFL diploma (DELTA or Trinity Dip. TESOL) essential. You must also have experience of teacher training or trainer training.

You will contribute to the delivery of ‘English for the Future’ which is a key element of the British Council’s cultural relations work in the Middle East and North Africa. The project in Algeria currently reaches and engages with just under 1 million learners and teachers and has been very successful in generating sponsorship income to fund interventions in state sector teacher training. It forms a key part of our work in Algeria and will play a dominant part in the Council’s profile as the centre in Algeria is restructured.

This is strong base to build on, but still a challenge. The role will involve a considerable element of teacher training delivery and conference presentations. Relationship building/maintenance with the corporate sector, Ministry of Education and other stakeholders will be crucial. Good financial and project planning skills are required.

You will be expected to take a leading role in increasing audience size and generating income through sponsorship and/or the provision of ELT services in Algeria. You will be a member of a 20 strong team across the MENA region. The team includes 17 other project managers with a cluster lead for the four countries in the Maghreb.

This post would ideally suit someone already in a management role wishing to broaden their experience or, a Senior Teacher who has some experience of teacher training and would like to take their career forward through gaining experience outside the teaching centre management structure. This is an excellent opportunity show an entrepreneurial approach to English project work.
