Post Doctoral Research Assistant in Wind Energy Engineering - fixed term contract to 16 May 2013

Salary: Grade F - £22,971 ~ £26,629 per annum. Starting salary unlikely to exceed £22,971

Opportunities are available for a Post Doctoral Research Assistant in Wind Energy Engineering for a fixed term contract to 16 May 2013.

Based in the Wind Energy Engineering Research Group in the School of Computing, Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of Central Lancashire, in Preston, you will work on the ERDF funded project "Development of Innovative Small Wind Turbine Technologies".

The successful applicants will be working on the wind turbine control, operation and grid connection along with lab testing of wind turbine generators and power electronics, or on the wind turbine testing and monitoring using both lab and field testing facilities. The work involves assisting a Project Engineer and working with SMEs to provide diagnosis, technical advice, knowledge transfer and technical support to wind energy projects. The work will be carried out within the Wind Energy Engineering Research Group which is a multidisciplinary team under the management of the ERDF Project Manager and the leadership of the group leader.

Applicants should have a PhD in Electrical Engineering (Generators and Power Electronics) or Mechatronics Engineering or related discipline. Experience of the use of mathematical modelling (e.g. MATLAB) codes and hands-on experience in lab or field testing facilities are essential, along with good research and practical IT skills, good knowledge/skills in field trip and data collection/analysis. Also desirable would be experience with wind energy engineering research/industry and/or wind turbine testing/monitoring and/or generator dynamometer and/or wind turbine blade testing.
