The Project Management Excellence (PMX) Manger is responsible for working within the Worldwide Services Business Desk (SBD), a group tasked to assist the field with both complex and non-complex services deals (deal structure, contracting, negotiation, pricing, financing, etc), ensure adherence to group guidelines and policies, and provide feedback and guidance to business program groups for the development of future services offerings

The mission of PMX is to provide the Microsoft Services Field with specific project management support for large/complex engagements and projects, during deal shaping, approval, delivery and closure.
The PMX Primary Objectives are:
• Promote excellence in execution and continuous improvement in project management services (including processes, tools and templates) provided by PMX and the larger SBD group worldwide.
• Share best practices and lessons learned among PMX, SBD and Services personnel worldwide.
• Support the growth and development of the Project Manager role/community and communicate the value proposition of PMX to internal and external stakeholders
• Provides tactical, hands-on project management support to the field on complex opportunities and engagements
• Serve as the subject matter expert and supporter in determining how Microsoft Services areas of quality are defined, delivered and measured world-wide.

Key Success Criteria:
• Ensure overall project management excellence, focusing principally on supporting project management related activities from proposal and Statement of Work (SOW) development, work breakdown cost and schedule estimation, project status reporting and project support and some project recovery.
• Support the development of and drive the adoption of PMX and SBD policies, methods, tools, templates, practices and programs. This activity will involve providing valuable input as a subject matter expert on new methods and processes that drive higher quality and an improved customer experience.
• Ensure project management excellence within the region of responsibility, with specific focus and monitoring of all complex projects.
• Review and approve of proposals and SOW as part of the business approval process. This may involve some hands on work to guide and help the bid team in creating this material.
• Review and approve the work breakdown structures (WBS), schedule and cost estimates as part of the business approval process. This may involve some hands on work to guide and help the bid team in creating this material.
• Provide guidance to the project during the setup phase and support the project manager in order to have a proper handover from the opportunity owner to the delivery team. This will include a detailed review of all deal management materials. Support the project to setup the initial project management plan, WBS and setting up the first project performance report (PPR).
• Review the project on a regular basis by using the PPR, Project Finance Workbook (PFW) and the project plan to determine the project status. If required, provide tactical hands-on assistance to the project team and escalate issues within SBD or the services community. Report on the status of the most complex projects, if required.
• Support the creation and adoption of PMX processes, policies and systems.
• Support post project management reviews, providing review feedback to the project and engagement team.
• Recommend assignment of proper project manager’s to projects and provide on-going training and mentoring support to the project manager community generally.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential Experience:
• Excellent project management capabilities.
• Must have managerial skills and the ability to handle complex critical situations with managing a range of different stakeholders and conflicting interests
• Must have a proven record of delivering business value.
• Candidates must have a high-level understanding of markets, customers and related technology
• Candidates must have a high-level understanding of customer and partner business and IT environment.
• Work with teams of 100+ people (may include customer/partner resources) in a given district, region or country.
• Experience managing and integrating offshore project staff augmentation

Qualifications:
• 10 years of customer-facing project or team management experience.
• Must have a degree in Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent work experience. Higher relevant education preferred.
• PMP certification or Microsoft solution architectural certifications preferred.

Technical / Functional Skills:
• Excellent English language skills and the ability to present for top management.
• Work experience should involve technical consulting, project envisioning, planning, development, deployment, and management.
