The organization

CORDAID is an international development aid organisation based in the Hague and currently employs 260 members of staff. The organisation believes in the power of people and supports them in their fight against poverty and inequality worldwide. The CORDAID Financial Services Fund (CFS) was established in 1997 as part of CORDAID’s strategy to become more self sufficient. With €60 million in assets, CFS predominantly invests in microfinance institutions (MFIs) with a ‘social mission’ and serves over 115 investees worldwide. CFS currently focuses on rural and agricultural microfinance and MFIs in fragile regions. Due to the growth strategy, both in new funds as well as in the current rural fund, CORDAID is looking to recruit a Fund Manager who is socially engaged and able to make CFS grow further.

Tasks and responsibilities:

  • Manage six to eight investment officers and a mid/back office of three to five members of staff
  • Responsible for risk management, P&L and sustainable growth of CFS
  • Chair the internal credit committee and interface with external credit committee
  • Design and implement the CFS strategic and operational plan
  • Build new investor relations and maintain contacts internally as well as externally
  • Responsible for the financial and social policy and results of CFS
  • Develop investment plans with the different CORDAID business units
  • Assist in developing new products in the credit portfolio
  • Responsible for structuring, monitoring and reporting of a portfolio of clients

Profile of the suitable candidate:

  • A relevant university degree in (development) finance or similar
  • At least five years Fund Management experience in structuring
  • investments, preferably in developing countries
  • A minimum of five years Fund Management experience in managing a team
  • A clear desire to serve low-income people, and passionate about development finance
  • Extensive relationship management skills and experience in both public and private investment funds
  • Knowledge of the businesses, regions and partners of CORDAID
  • Proven social and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in public speaking and the ability to represent CORDAID
  • Fluent in English and at least one foreign language, preferably Spanish
