ENVIRONMENTAL COORDINATOR - African Barrick Gold (ABG)

We seek to appoint an Environmental Coordinator at our Tulawaka Gold Mining operation. Reporting Line: General Manager

Work Schedule: Rotational Status (6 Weeks on 3 Weeks off) Duration: Permanent

KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• To develop and implement an environmental management system to ensure compliance with Barrick and international environmental standards.

• To develop and implement a site rehabilitation programme, to ensure that disturbed areas are returned to their natural state.

• Develop environmental monitoring processes and systems to ensure that impacts can be identified and managed in an appropriate timeframe.

• Provide input into solving problems on site with environmental implications and coordinate development of strategies for their long-term management.

• Play a role in all relevant industry committees, government working parties and community groups to ensure that Company interests are represented and protected.

• Participate in responsible and relevant discussions in seeking solutions to environmental problems with public and government organizations.

• Provide professional and technical support to line management and contractor management to ensure that operating practices comply with environmental best practice.

• Provide leadership, support and training for environmental staff to promote their advancement within the Company.

• Implement employee performance management processes to ensure optimum performance and take appropriate action to remedy and substandard employee performance or behavior.

• Interact and participate with Mining Contractor, which is responsible for conduct of mining activities, for the Life of Project.

• Develop, implement and maintain a long-term sustainable vector control programme targeting malaria for the project area.

PROFESSIONAL SKILLS

Education Requirements:

• Degree in Environmental Science, Earth Science or equivalent.

Experience Requirements:

• At least five years experience in industry with exposure to the mining, mineral processing or chemicals manufacturing industry is essential.
• Sound knowledge of the mining safety and environmental regulations.

• Ability to effectively communicate with the workforce and the general community.

• Strong commercial acumen

• Resilience and resourcefulness
