Healthcare Biotechnology

Healthcare biotechnology has a tremendous impact on meeting the needs of patients and their families. In fact, biotechnology in healthcare not only encompasses medicines and diagnostics which are manufactured using a biotechnological process, but also cell and tissue engineered products, gene therapy and includes the use and the application of key biotechnology tools in the research and development of all innovative medicines.

Today, more than 325 million patients have benefited from approved medicines manufactured through biotechnology. Biotech medicines are estimated to account for approximately 20% of all marketed medicines and represent 50% of all medicines in the pipeline.

Job description

Due to the strengthened membership base of healthcare biotech companies and increased related activities, EuropaBio’s healthcare unit, located in Brussels, is expanding to include a third position. EuropaBio’s healthcare unit contributes to the process of policy development and regulatory implementation in this field by presenting a coordinated industry voice and position on specific such as Personalised Medicines, R&D policies, Orphan Drugs and patients access to innovative treatments.

Together with the EuropaBio corporate and national association membership, the ideal Healthcare Manager, reporting to the Healthcare Biotech Director, will support the execution of a strategy to improve the policy environment for healthcare biotechnology in Europe. Not exhaustively, the Healthcare Manager will:

• Ensure the Secretariat and management of issues such as the organisation of internal and external meetings, follow-up actions and coordination of consultations in the different healthcare Topic Groups and Task Forces;
• Maintain and strengthen a network for long-term relationship with institutional stakeholders and particularly the European Parliament. Implement and execute advocacy projects in line with the HC Council and Topic groups agenda;
• Under the supervision of the Healthcare Biotech Director and the Communications Officer, develop and implement the healthcare events and communication agenda;
• Ultimately, the Healthcare Manager’s tasks and responsibilities will be determined after further discussions with the Healthcare Director and the secretary General, in view of candidate's experience, interests and the specific needs of the association and its members.

Candidate Profile

• University degree in public health, political sciences, law or equivalent;
• Good practical knowledge of European public affairs acquired during at least four years working experience, preferably including direct contact with European institutions;
• Fluent English written and spoken (working language). Additional EU language a plus;
• Motivated and outgoing team player able to work in a small team;
• Strong communication and writing skills;
• Strong analytical and synthesis skills;
• Action-driven and results oriented;
• Strong project management and organisational skills;
• Ability to work to tight deadlines, structured.
