Maintenance Fitter

A vacancy has arisen for the above-mentioned position in our Engineering/Maintenance Department at Island View Storage, Durban. The incumbent will report to the Maintenance Foreman in the Workshop.

Key functions will include:

• Assisting with scheduled maintenance tasks and breakdowns
• Assisting with preventative maintenance and completing task sheets
• Removing and installing equipment, and carrying out new projects
• Maintaining and overhauling pumps and valves
• Undertaking mechanical faultfinding
• Supervising Artisan Assistants and some contractors.

Minimum requirements:

• A Matric
• An Artisan/Fitter Trade Test Certificate
• 8 years’ relevant experience in the chemical environment
• At least 8 years’ fitting and turning experience. Supervisory experience would be advantageous.

Competencies (knowledge, skills and abilities):

• Knowledge of, commitment to and passion for preventative/planned maintenance
• The ability and passion to safely and quickly attend to breakdowns
• A positive attitude and passion for working in a team
• The ability to communicate in English
• Knowledge of safety and environment legislation and systems
• Rigging skills.
